Steps
1
Unlock the phone, which can be done by pressing the button on the right-hand side of the handset
.
Alternatively, press the home button at the bottom of the phone.
2
3
Enter the passcode, password, or pattern or press the finger onto the home button
.
The home button doubles as a fingerprint scanner if you have that security option enabled. This will bring up the home screen.
4
Locate the Google Maps icon
.
The icon for Google Maps has the letter "g" and is quite colorful, incorporating yellow, green, white, blue, gray, and red. The colors represent landscape, pins, and roads. In this example, everything is kept in folders. Google Maps is in the "Travel" folder.
5
Tap Google Maps to open the application
.
The application will take you to your previously viewed location, or it will take you to the current location. The current location will be used if the icon with a little white compass, the top icon in the bottom right corner, is lit in blue. In this example, the map has switched to the previous location, Trafalgar Square. The red pin means that this is the exact location for which a search has been performed.
6
Tap on the National Portrait Gallery
.
The red pin will mark the National Portrait Gallery just to show its exact location on the map.
7
Tap on the National Gallery
.
Now, the red pin is on the National Gallery, next to Trafalgar Square. There is a review rating at the bottom that says "The National Gallery".
8
Drag up the section with the location name and review rating at the bottom
.
There will be pictures of the location at the top of the screen.
9
Scroll down to find reviews, information about the website and the opening hours, and so on
.
10
The first options on the screen are "CALL", "SAVE", and "WEBSITE".
11
To save the location for later, tap the star in the middle that says "SAVE"
.
The star will be yellow and the label will change to "SAVED".
12
Tap the arrow on top to go back to the map
.
13
Zoom in to the National Gallery
.
There is a small star that comes up in red on the newly saved place, the National Gallery.
14
To unsave, tap the saved area
.
A saved area has a little yellow star.
15
Drag up the section with the location name and review rating at the bottom
.
16
The star will turn blue and the label will change to "SAVE", making it possible to save the location again.
