Repair Atibtmon.Exe Error

If you're getting an atibtmon.exe error on your system, it is likely infected. Clean your system using an Antivirus program. After cleaning the system, delete all malicious Registry entries, infected cookies & temporary files using Reginout System Utilities.
Terminate Malicious Process
The file is classified as a malicious item. Before you delete the file and its registry entries, it is important to stop the process first.
- 1For Windows 8.1/ 8.
- Press Windows Key + X.
- Select "Task Manager".
- Click "More details" icon.
- Click "Details" tab.
- Right click "atibtmon.exe" and select "Open File Location".
- Do not close the window, just minimize it temporarily.
- Restore "Task Manager" again.
- Right click the same process, select "End Task".
- 2For Windows 7/ Vista.
- Press Windows Key + R simultaneously.
- Type "MSCONFIG"
- Click OK.
- Click "Startup" tab.
- Uncheck the startup item that executes the atibtmon.exe file.
- Note down the file path.
- Click Apply | OK.
- Restart your computer.
Delete the Malicious File Atibtmon.exe
After successfully terminating the malicious process it's time to delete malicious file.
- 1For Windows 8.1/ 8.
- Open the file containing malicious file. (Refer Step # 5 under Terminate Malicious Process section)
- Delete the file.
- If you couldn't locate the atibtmon.exe file, use Windows Search feature:
- Open File Explorer.
- Press F3 key and type the file name on upper right corner.
- 2For Windows 7/ Vista.
- Double click My Computer icon.
- Open the folder containing infected file. (Refer Step # 6 under Terminate Malicious Process section)
- Delete the file.
- If you couldn't locate the atibtmon.exe file, use Windows Search feature:
- Click Start, type the file name "atibtmon.exe" in Search Box at the bottom of the Start Menu.
Delete Other Random Infected Files
There are other random infected files too. Follow the procedure given below to delete them.
- 1For Windows 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista.
- Open File Explorer in case of Windows 8.1/ 8.
- Open Windows Explorer in case of Windows 7/ Vista.
- Open the following locations and delete random files:
- Locations:
C:\Users\Vikas\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\random.exe
C:\Users\Vikas\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Windows\Temp
- Locations:
- Random File Names:
- random.exe
- random I.exe (I is integer; represents a random file number, say random 1.exe, random 5.exe)
- Exit File Explorer/Windows Explorer.
- Restart your computer.
Set Up Registry Configurations
Here are tips and tricks to modify your computer's settings:
- 1For Windows 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista.
- Press Windows Key + R.
- Type "RegEdit" and click OK.
- Delete random string values from the Registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Random '.exe'

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run 'Random'

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings 'CertificateRevocation' =Random

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\run\Random.exe

- Exit out of the screen.
Change Power Plan Settings
This step is exclusively for ATI Graphics Card users. For other users, please contact your graphics card vendor.
- 1For Windows 8.1/ 8.
- Press Windows Key + X.
- Select Power Options.
- Click "Change Plan Settings" link ahead of active power plan. Example: Balanced
- Click "Change Advanced Power Settings" link.
- This opens up a new dialog- Power Options.
- Expand the following node:
- ATI Graphics Power Settings | ATI PowerPlay Settings
- Set both of the options inside this node to "Maximum performance".
- Click OK.
- Exit out of the screen.
- 2For Windows 7/ Vista.
- Click Start | Control Panel.
- Click Hardware and Sound | Change plan settings (ahead of active power plan).
- Refer Steps # 3-8 under Windows 8.1/ 8 user's section.
