Remove a microSD Card from a Samsung Galaxy S7

Edited by David Mason, Eng, VisiHow

One of the greatest things about the Samsung Galaxy S7 is the ability to add or remove a microSD card. This feature was noticeably absent in the Galaxy S6. Obviously if you installed a memory card yourself, you probably know how to take it out. However, if you upgraded from a Galaxy S6 or purchased your new S7 from a Samsung store, it may already have had a microSD card installed. In this case, maybe you don't know how to remove the microSD card from your Galaxy S7. While the removal process itself is very simple, there are a few precautions.

Most notable is the fact that if you insert the SIM-card removal tool into the wrong hole, it is possible not only to damage your device but also to damage the waterproofing. Damaging the waterproofing though means you could lose your whole device from just a few drops of water or an accidental spill. Not to fear though! We have a tutorial below which will teach you how to remove your memory card from the S7 without damaging it and without damaging the waterproofing.

Once you have chosen a tool, you are going to need to insert it into the proper hole
    .
To identify the proper hole, pick up your Samsung Galaxy S7 and look at the top. You will see holes on the top left and top right.

    .
This letter 'S' will guide you to the proper hole to remove the SIM card tray. Look for the hole on the left side of the top, which will be directly over that first letter 'S' we described above.

Once the SIM-card tray has slid out a little bit, very carefully pull the tray out of the phone
    .
You must exercise caution when doing this, because the SIM card tray is plastic. It is possible to break it, in which case you will need to get another one. Worse: you could damage your phone trying to insert or remove a broken SIM-card tray.

I have been getting memory alerts from my S7 and want to put in a memory card. Do I need a special tool and how do I open the door? It looks like it is on the top of the case and I think I remember just getting a thin stiff wire to open the door. Is that right?
