Edited by Thor, Rushell, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to quickly suspend and resume the TalkBack mode on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on the top of the phone
.
2
Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen
.
3
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up on the screen
.
4
Now, the phone has been unlocked, and we will see the Home screen
.
At the bottom, we will see several icons. We now need to find the Settings menu, and to do that we need to swipe the Notification panel down.
5
To open the Notification panel, start at the top of the screen, and swipe downwards
.
6
Now, we can see that the Notification panel has appeared
.
7
We are looking for the icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
It is a white cog icon. This is our Settings icon.
8
Press down on this icon, and it will open up our "Settings" menu
.
It says the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
9
Now, let's scroll down to the "PERSONAL" section
.
It says the word "PERSONAL" in the gray bar.
10
In this section, we are looking for the "Accessibility" option
.
Next to this word is an icon of a hand. Press down on this section to open the "Accessibility" options.
11
We want the first option at the top where it says, "TalkBack"
.
Press down on this to enter the "TalkBack" section. In order to demonstrate how to quickly suspend and resume the TalkBack mode, we first need to turn it on.
12
To do this, we're going to press on the switch at the top
.
In the black bar at the top, there is a small switch icon. It currently says, "OFF".
13
As soon as we press down on the switch a confirmation screen will appear that says, "Use TalkBack?" at the top
.
14
Just press "OK" at the bottom right in the gray bar
.
15
The "TalkBack" mode is turned on
.
With TalkBack mode, when we touch options or icons, it talks to us and tells what they are. We have to double-tap on the options we want. In normal mode, we can just touch them once. However, in TalkBack mode, we have to double-tap everything.
16
To continue, we need to press down on the icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
There are three small white squares in a vertical line, and this will open up our menu.
17
Press down on this icon once to put a green box around it
.
The TalkBack voice will tell us this is the "More options button".
18
Now, double-tap on the icon, and it will say "Settings"
.
The menu will appear, with "Settings" as the only option.
19
Double-tap on the word "Settings"
.
20
On the next screen, we need to scroll down
.
When scrolling during TalkBack mode, we need to use two fingers. Normally we would just use one finger, but with TalkBack mode, we need to use two.
21
Scroll down all the way to the bottom
.
It can be very loud because we are touching a lot of options quickly.
22
We want the option that says "TalkBack suspend and resume short." In order to suspend and then resume the TalkBack mode, we can press down on the volume up and down keys, as it says on the screen, "Long press volume up and down keys"
.
23
We can tell this option is activated because the box on the right side is green with a white check inside of it
.
This means that from anywhere we can quickly suspend the TalkBack mode. This mode is quite fiddly, as we've just seen. When we have to touch a lot of things, that makes a lot of noise. It can be very difficult to navigate, and it's very useful if we can jump out of this mode quite quickly.
24
To do that we have to press the volume up and down keys at the same time and hold them down
.
We're going to demonstrate that now. The volume keys are located on the right-hand side of the phone.
25
When done successfully, a gray window will appear
.
"Suspend TalkBack? - Are you sure that you want to suspend TalkBack? - While TalkBack is suspended, your device will not provide feedback and Explore by Touch will be disabled. - You can resume TalkBack from the notification shade or by returning to the lock screen." Just beneath that it says, "Always show this warning", and the box in front of that is checked. It is telling us that there are two ways to resume TalkBack. One is to go to the Notification panel. The other is to turn the phone on and off or to return to the Lock screen.
26
We need to press down on "OK" at the bottom right corner of the gray window
.
27
Since we just pressed it one time, it has put a green box around the word "OK"
.
28
We have to then double-tap it
.
29
Now, we can scroll up and down the screen as normal and use the phone as we would in a normal mode
.
30
However, if we want to resume the TalkBack mode, we first need to swipe down the Notification panel
.
We can do that by starting at the top and swiping downward.
31
We can see at the top of the Notification panel it says, "TalkBack is suspended - Tap to resume"
.
32
All we need to do to resume TalkBack mode is just tap on that message in the Notification panel
.
33
Now, TalkBack mode has been restarted and resumed
.
If we press on something, it will talk to us. This shows us that the TalkBack mode has been resumed.
34
This concludes our tutorial on how to quickly suspend and resume the TalkBack mode on an HTC One M8
