Put a Double Space After Periods on an Android Edited by Grimm, Zack, Eng, Jen M
You're watching VisiHow. Today, we're going to teach you how to put a double space after a period in your Android smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S5 or other devices.
Steps
1
Press the Lock button on the right-hand side of your phone to get started
.
2
Give a quick swipe across the screen or otherwise enter in your passcode, pin, fingerprint or face recognition, as you may have it set up
.
3
The next thing you're going to want to do is tap on the 'Apps' icon on the bottom right-hand side of your phone
.
If you press on 'Apps' it will open up the applications folder.
4
Once you are in your applications folder, you want to navigate to the 'Settings' icon, which is a gear shift icon
.
A single press on the 'Settings' icon will open up the Settings panel.
5
In the Settings panel, you're going to scroll all the way down to the system options, and then you're going to tap on 'Language and input'
.
A single tap on 'Language and input' will bring up the keyboard option.
6
Tapping on the 'Samsung keyboard' one time will open up the keyboard option for you
.
7
At that point, you can scroll down, and then you can tap on the 'Auto spacing' check box
.
A check mark to turn it on will give you auto spacing. This will automatically insert spaces between words.
8
And to add in the automatic spacing after a period, you just simply tap the checkbox and this lets you automatically put in a period by double-tapping the space bar
.
9
Next, press the 'Home' button and I'll show you two other ways to access this menu
.
One quick press on the 'Home' button takes us back home.
10
Now, let's go over to our quick options and see what we have open
.
Let's close Settings so that I can show you a clean install.
11
Press one time here on the 'Home' button
.
12
Now let's open up our 'Messages' application
.
You can see that I now have Messages open, and in the upper left-hand corner I've got a notification of the keyboard icon.
13
Let's swipe down to the Notifications panel
14
"Choose input method." Give that a single tap and that's going to open up our input methods choices
.
Now I have Samsung keyboard.
15
I can tap to set up input method
.
16
Again as before, I would tap the 'Samsung keyboard' gear shift option to get settings open
.
17
And now I can scroll down and you can see that I have "Auto-punctuate" and "Auto spacing" both selected
.
That's one way of accessing this menu.
18
Press the 'Home' button one time to go back to the home screen
.
19
Now that we are back on the home screen, we can simply press our quick panel and close that Settings option again
.
20
And press the 'Home' button
.
21
And now I will show you one final way to do this
.
Swipe down to the Notifications panel.
22
Tap on the 'Settings' icon
.
This brings up the same settings menu as before.
23
Scroll all the way down, just as we did in the early part of this tutorial, to the system option
.
24
You are then going to press on the 'Language and input'
.
25
And once more the 'Samsung keyboard'
.
Give a single press.
26
And you'll be able to scroll down and set your "Auto spacing" and "Auto-punctuate" options
.
27
When you're finished, press the 'Home' key and this will take you back to your home screen
.
28
This concludes our tutorial on how to set up the double spacing for periods on an Android
.
Thank you for using VisiHow, and have a great day!
