Create a Character
You're watching VisiHow! In this tutorial, we are going to show the basics of creating a character in the Neverwinter MMO game.
Steps
- 1To get started, we should watch the tutorial on how to download and install the Arc client and set up Neverwinter available at https://visihow.com/Install_Arc_Games_to_Play_Neverwinter_Online.
- 2
- 3
- 4
- 5We'll be taken to the window where we have the option of creating our character. Each time we come to this window, one of the races will be randomly selected. Currently, there are "Half-Orc", "Human", "Elf" (which splits into "Wood Elf", "Moon Elf" and "Sun Elf"), "Half-Elf", "Drow" (which splits into "Menzoberranzan Renegade" and "Drow"), "Dwarf", "Halfling", "Tiefling", and "Dragonborn" (which splits into basic "Dragonborn" and "Metallic Ancestry Dragonborn") races. We can just press "Esc" to skip past the video.
- 6There is no difference, materially, between a female and male characters in the game. However, there are sometimes significant differences between the races. For example, if we have the Drow race selected, then we'll have their special ability called "Darkfire", which means that there is a 5% chance to apply Darkfire for four seconds. This will reduce the defense of the target. Drows have bonuses to ability scores. These bonuses vary from race to race. Drows also have another ability, "Trance", which means that Drows heal up at the campfires twice as fast.We can also choose between "Female" and "Male".
- 7We will see that the human portrait will change, and so will the options below it. Now, we will see that Humans have the ability called "Versatile Defense", meaning that their defense is 3% higher than that of the other races. Humans have their ability scores, and they have another ability called "Heroic Effort", which gives them extra feat points at levels 10, 15, and 20.For example, we can click on "Human".
- 8
- 9Currently, there are eight different classes. The ninth class has not yet been added. Each time we select the class, we will see the portrait of the character change with whatever our choice is. We'll see the different bonuses that the class has. For the "Great Weapon Fighter" class, those are "Spring", "Punishing Charge", "Avalanche of Steel", and "Dungeoneering", unique for it. "Dungeoneering" allows us to open and find special types of items that are usually identifiable as usable by the character. From this screen, we will choose the class that we would like to be for our character.

Understand the Differences between Races
You're watching VisiHow! In this tutorial, we are going to show how to choose between the different races in the Dungeons and Dragons Neverwinter MMO.
Steps
- 1The Drow race is a race very suited towards thievery; however, they can play differently as well. As a general rule, if we hover over the "Ability Scores" option, we will see that Drows get +2 to dexterity and then either +2 to charisma or wisdom. This makes Drows well-suited to being thief or rogue-type characters or rangers. We are going to start with Drow.
- 2If we click on the Dwarf character, we will get to see a hairy fat dwarf guy. The Dwarves have the ability called "Stand Your Ground", which increases their resistance to abilities that knock them down or push them back. As we will get hit often by that at higher levels, this is a very good ability to have. Ability Scores lean towards constitution and strength or wisdom. That means that Drows are good fighters and clerics or priests. Drows also have damage resistance to any damage-over-time spells. This can be also quite helpful, especially in player-versus-player combat. The next class in our list is Dwarf.
- 3Let's click on "Halfling". A Halfling is a short little fellow. Many of us may know Halflings as hobbits from the Lord of the Rings. Halflings are very good thieves. If we look at their Ability Scores, we can see that they have dexterity, charisma, and constitution. Halflings are also good fighters if we are able to deal with having a short character, and that does not bother us. They also can make good spell-casters. They have a good ability called "Nimble Reaction", which gives them a deflection chance. Halflings also have the "Bold" ability, which means that they resist control effects. If we combine those with some other class abilities, then it can be powerful combinations. We have Halflings next in our list.
- 4These characters make very good rogues and spell-casters. They also can be fighters. Their Ability Scores are charisma, constitution, and intelligence. Tieflings have an ability called "Bloodhunt", which gives them an extra 5% damage to targets below half health. This can be particularly helpful if we are fighting something, and we are doing a lot of damage. Tieflings also have the ability called "Infernal Wrath", which means that they have a 10% chance to apply damage reduction to their opponents. This is created as an effect that reduces the power of the opponents, but, as a result, this reduces their overall damage to our character.Next, we have the Tiefling race.
- 5Both Dragonborn races are a purchased option. If we purchase them, we will have the abilities for Dragonborn characters, which means that we will get more healing, +2 to any two statistics, which is significant, and "Dragonborn Fury". "Dragonborn Fury" means a higher critical chance and greater power. These are the characters that can be anything. They are one of the powerful races in the game, which is why we have to purchase them.Next, we have the Dragonborn race.
- 6Half-Elves are a mix that is good at just about everything. Their Ability Scores lend them to constitution, wisdom, and charisma. They have an ability to get plus one to any non-class ability score. This is a nice minimal extra ability that does not make a huge difference in the game. What is nice about Half-Elves is that they have a knack for success, which means that they get a cumulative 1% increase to some of their abilities, which are later offset by in-game things, such as Power Stones and items, to give us a little higher chance. Again, it is not game-breaking, and it is not super significant.Following that, we have Half-Elves, who are a mix of Humans and Elves.
- 7
- 8
- 9
- 10The Wood Elves also have the "Wild Step" ability, which means that everything that slows them is not going to work as well. If we want to choose a ranger, then this is a good race to play.As we can note, Sun and Moon Elves are basically the same class, while Wood Elves have a higher critical chance, which makes them better rangers.
- 11Humans are one of the most powerful classes in the game. Partially because their defense is 3% higher than that of the other races. So, if we are playing a front-line fighter, then that's a great thing to have. Second, they have +2 to any ability score, which makes them not quite as powerful as Dragonborns; but still a decent choice. Finally, Humans have "Heroic Effort", which means that they end up getting three more Heroic Feat points than any other class. That is nice. Again, that is not game-breaking; but it can help a bit. Finally, we have Humans.
- 12They make fantastic two-handed-weapon fighters, and ironically, they also make very good thieves. They have the "Furious Assault" ability, which means that the critical damage they do is 5% higher. Then, they have Ability Scores in dexterity, constitution, and strength. This is why they make good thieves. The combination of dexterity and strength is actually powerful because it has a cumulative effect, as our critical hits go higher. Finally, Half-Orcs have "Swift Charge", which allows them to run much faster and reach enemies before other people do.Last but not least, we have massive Half-Orcs.
This concludes our tutorial on understanding and determining the differences between the races and their suitability to a particular type of class in Neverwinter online game. Obviously, any of the game character race choices that we would like to make for our style of playing are not going to make the game unplayable. Some of the choices just offer a very small edge that some people prefer to have. Choosing what we want and going with that is recommended. However, if we really want to get the most out of a particular character, then we would want to use some of the tips in this guide and apply them to our game play. Thanks for watching VisiHow! Have a great day! We look forward to seeing you in our next video.

Understand the Basic Differences between Classes
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we're going to briefly explain the differences between classes in the Dungeons and Dragons Neverwinter MMO game.
Steps
- 1We can see the giant sword held by the particular character. This is a class that deals a large amount of damage with a gigantic sword. The class is not particularly capable when it comes to purely defending. They rather excel at offense. If we like to attack heavily and also have a reasonably good defense, then this is a great class choice. The first class that we are going to start with is "Great Weapon Fighter".
- 2This class can mix hand-to-hand and ranged combat. This is helpful especially if we prefer two-weapon fighting. We can attack from range, and when the target gets close enough to us, we can finish it off. It's a good well-rounded class with some abilities that allow it to perform more effectively at range than other classes do. However, in mass combat, Hunter Rangers don't fight well sometimes.Next on our list is "Hunter Ranger".
- 3This is a thief. Trickster Rogues wield two weapons like Hunter Rangers. They do a massive amount of damage. They are very good at stealth. In fact, one of their best abilities is to disappear and reappear attacking the character that they are fighting. If we like rogues and stealth abilities, then this is the great class to play. We have to be sure that we know the limits and that we have a big beefy friend to help us out.Next, we have "Trickster Rogue".
- 4This is a class that is also quite good at doing damage. Additionally, Devoted Clerics restore health and do a better job at restoring health than all of the other characters. They have some control spells, but as a rule, they tend to simply attack and do damage. It is difficult to play Devoted Clerics sometimes, because when they occasionally heal several other characters at once, a monster might decide that the healing generates enough threat to attack us. We have to manage healing and damage and be careful a bit. It's not that easy to play a Devoted Cleric as other characters, but it is fun.Next, we have the "Devoted Cleric" class.
- 5Scourge Warlocks do a lot of damage. They are stronger than Devoted Clerics; however, that does not make them a tank. They cast spells and do damage. If we like spell-casting classes, this is the class that we should consider. We have to remember that we will be squishy."Scourge Warlock" is a damage class.
- 6This is the tank class of the game. Guardian Fighters are very strong and tough. They have a shield. When they block monsters, blocking gives them a benefit. They are very easy to play. However, at higher levels, it can be somewhat hard to do things alone, because this class does not do a lot of damage. So, we would need rogues or other squishy characters with us to help us with the damage aspect."Guardian Fighter".
- 7Control Wizards specialize in ice attacks a lot, but, as a general rule, they control and damage their targets. They also have a force and one of the most popular Dungeon and Dragons spells called "Magic Missile". They are also a bit squishy, but they are a powerful class that does a lot of damage and is fun to play.Next, we have "Control Wizard".
- 8Oathbound Paladins are the class that mix healing with protecting people around them. They are fairly good damage class. They are a bit better at solo playing as a melee class than the Guardian Fighter or the Great Weapon Fighter. However, our mileage might vary depending on our experience. Finally, we have "Oathbound Paladin".
- 9
- 10So, in case of the Guardian Fighter class, there is one path where we are very defensive; and there is another path where we are more offensive, preferring to attack more than defend. There are variances with the classes once we get into the game.We have to keep in mind that each of these classes also have the option to have one or more paths.

Understand How Ability Scores Work
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to go over the Ability Scores available to your character in the Dungeons and Dragons Neverwinter MMO game.
Steps
- 1
- 2
- 3In the event we have any difficulty with colors (we might have our own color setup), there is text that reads, "...your primary ability Is..." and, "Your secondary abilities are...". In our case, "Constitution" is the primary ability, and "Strength" and "Dexterity" are the secondary abilities. Our primary abilities will be listed in purple, and our secondary abilities will be listed in blue.
- 4For example, if we move our mouse over "Strength", we will see that strength measures the physical power of a character. This is the damage that a character can do, but anything else, like the blocking ability, that requires physical power can be improved through strength. Each of the six abilities corresponds to a set of character strengths and weaknesses.
- 5
- 6
- 7Intelligence describes how well the character learns and reasons. It helps with how fast we get our special powers back as a character when we are playing the game. It is especially important, obviously, to spell-casters, wizards, and even rogues. For fighters, intelligence is not as important; but it is not a statistic that should be overlooked. Then, we have "Intelligence".
- 8
- 9This is the force of personality, persuasiveness, and leadership. Leadership means a lot for a Guardian Fighter because leadership has a contributing bonus to the abilities and statistics of any of our pets, hirelings, or followers. Followers are other characters that we do not control fully, but they follow us around. We can occasionally click buttons and make them do things for us.Finally, we have "Charisma".
- 10Humans will be able to choose one. Dragonborns will be able to choose two. Other races will be able to choose one out of their two preset abilities. For Humans, if we choose "+2 Strength" at 14 Strength, Strength becomes 16. If we choose "+2 Constitution" at 15 Constitution, Constitution becomes 17; but Strength goes back to 14. We may want to figure out what the primary ability value is.Next, we will have the Racial Abilities to choose.
- 11
- 12
- 13For example, 15 in primary and secondary abilities, and 10, 11, and 12 in other abilities. These are better scores, but they are not the best. Throughout the course of the game, they do not make that much of a difference. Every two points in an ability score gives us a bump up in our bonus. When we start out, we may want to keep our Ability Scores relatively even.We can balance scores out.
