You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to download and install the Fallout Shelter game for your iPhone 6.
Steps
- 1Once we've pressed the home button, we'll be taken to the lock screen.To get started with, press the home button one time.
- 2Swipe across.
- 3This will unlock the phone and take us to the home screen.Enter a PIN or passcode, or press and hold your thumb or fingerprint on the home button.
- 4It is a blue square with a white circle and a white letter "A". It is also labeled "App Store". Give one press on the App Store icon and this will open up the Apple App Store. In the App Store, we will find a wide selection of games. However, in order to find the game we're looking for, we're going to need to search.Find the App Store icon.
- 5On the bottom of the phone, second from last, to the right, there's a magnifying glass labeled "Search". Tapping on "Search" will open up the search area. We're looking in the search bar at the very top.Tap "Search".
- 6This will bring up the keyboard.Give one press on the search bar.
- 7We'll start with the first two letters and see what comes up. The "fa" lets us see that Fallout Shelter is now the second-most popular app on the App Store starting with "fa". Give a single press to "fallout shelter", which will open up "fallout shelter" search results.Type in "fallout".
- 8We can see there are currently "36 Results". The very first result is the game we are looking for, Fallout Shelter.Look at the right side of the search bar.
- 9This will take us to the actual game page, where we can see different information about the game by scrolling up or down, and we can also see images and pictures.Give one press on Fallout Shelter.
- 10We can view reviews in this tab.Tap "Reviews".
- 11This will give us a list of similar iPhone games, or in this case, "Top Grossing iPhone Games Apps".View related games by tapping "Related".
- 12Tap back on "Details".
- 13Depending on where we are with the game, and whether we've previously downloaded it or not, there may be a different icon there on the right side. Once we've tapped, the game should begin to download. When it's downloaded, we will then tap on "OPEN". You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we're going to show you how to get started with the Fallout Shelter game for your iPhone 6.
Steps
- 1This will take us into the first part of the game. To get started, we need to create a new vault. The concept of vaults is that they are shelters where people stay to survive the end of the world. Our job is to manage these people. That's what the game is built on.Once the game has launched, tap "ENTER VAULT".
- 2It says, "Now you have to determine the ID of your Vault. Choose carefully, because once you select an ID, it can't be changed!" Create carefully. We can later delete vaults, but we can't change them.Tap "NEW VAULT".
- 3Tap "OK".
- 4Is that good enough? It's good enough for us. 268. Tap "CREATE VAULT".Here is the ID of our vault.
- 5We see in the back, vault number "268". It says, "Congratulations! Vault-Tec has selected you to be the Overseer of Vault 268."Our vault has been created.
- 6In the back, we see an apocalyptic explosion. We have a vault where everyone is staying and saving.What the vault does is it keeps people safe from the dangers.
- 7Save people from having bad things happen to them. Make sure they stay happy. Keep everyone safe. The game is a bit like Civilization. Those who have played Sid Meier's Civilization or some of the expansion games, the old Warcraft games, Might and Magic, will know that each of those games requires players to move along through creating and managing a society.What we need to do is maintain the vault.
- 8We'll deal with those later. For now, what we're going to do is tap on "OK".We will get a pop-up that tells us about some things we can shop for or buy.
- 9At the bottom of the screen is a "HELPFUL HINT" box. This is a quick little tutorial that goes over the basic concepts. We can skip it if we'd like to by closing the app and restarting. We will walk you through the tutorial quickly though. Press "OK".As we start the vault, we have to expand things.
- 10This is our construction or build icon. Tap to open the menu that allows us to pick what we're going to build.We've got a little hammer in the top right-hand corner.
- 11At the moment, we only have one option, "POWER GENERATOR". This is all we have to build. However, as we improve and increase our vault, we will have more options here.Survey the options.
- 12We're going to build the power generator.Tap one time on the "POWER GENERATOR".
- 13The power generator is going to build. Each time we build something, we'll have an option for where we can place that thing.When we're ready to build it, tap on "BUILD".
- 14The green hammer icons are potential build sites for our power generator. Tap one to select it. We will choose the bottom right one. There's our little vault, it's been built. In order to make it work, we need people to work.We have three options.
- 15Here are some new people showing up, or running from the apocalypse, depending. We need to have the door open for them.Tap on "OK".
- 16Tap on "OK".
- 17Tap on a person.
- 18Here is a person. This person is level 1. This person doesn't have a great deal of special stats. However, we can learn where the person can be used the best, or what's best about them. There's some clothes, some fight ability, there's a lovely little beard. The person's not really happy though. Tap on "OK".See what their details are.
- 19Tap and hold and drag them to where we want to put them. So let's do that. Let's tap and hold this person.Assign the person.
- 20For us, this is the bottom right room. Now that person is going to go into the power room.Let's drag him on into the power room.
- 21Press and hold her.Let's put the second person there as well.
- 22If we drag a person to the wrong room, we can always drag them off of that room and into the other room. So now we have two people in our little area, and they are going to begin working in the power room. When they are working in the power room, this is going to power up things and allow us to accomplish more in our lovely little game.Drag her into the power room and release.
- 23DOUBLE TAP on a ROOM to take a closer look." Any room can be double-tapped. For the tutorial purposes, we'll double-tap the power room.Now we'll see that Fallout Shelter is telling us that when "DWELLERS are working, the room will start PRODUCING RESOURCES.
- 24People are chatting, talking, a little bit of ad lib and commentary. Good stuff. If we need to move things quickly, we can rush them. However, remember that rushing will cost us resources. Right now, we have free resources that we've started off with. However, as time passes, we will use them. We will have the option to use the store to buy more, which we discuss in another tutorial on how to use the Fallout Shelter store. For now, let's tap on "OK".Look into the room.
- 25The icon is a stopwatch along the bottom of the screen.To rush, tap on "RUSH".
- 26Tap "ACTIVATE" to proceed, or "CLOSE" to cancel.Look at "REWARDS" to see what we'll get.
- 27It's going to speed things up. Everyone's going to zoom along and there we go, we've got our power set up. Now we have a little bit more juice. Let's see what happens now.Let's tap "ACTIVATE".
- 28Tap on "OK".
- 29Tap the build icon. We can have food production with the "DINER".Let's build a second room.
- 30Tap the "DINER" card.
- 31Tap "BUILD".
- 32Let's choose the top right. This tutorial will continue on in this manner, where we build, increase, add.Tap a hammer to choose the diner site.
- 33We need another room. Now we have the option to build a water treatment area.Tap the build icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- 34Tap on "WATER TREATMENT".
- 35Tap on "BUILD".
- 36We will choose the bottom right. This will just continue on like this as we build things.Tap a hammer to place the water treatment room.

Navigate the Main Menu
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to use the main menu of the Fallout Shelter game for your iPhone 6. What you're going to want to do first is launch the game, which we discuss in another section of this tutorial. It shows how to download, install and launch the game.
Steps
- 1Give that a quick tap. This is going to open up the Quick Menu. We've got settings, reports, details, awards. We'll start off with the lunchboxes.Find the little radio or TV icon on the bottom right-hand side.
- 2Lunchboxes are a special thing that we get that unlock prizes for us.Tap the top icon shaped like a lunchbox.
- 3Press and hold on the lunchbox pictured.
- 4Drag the lunchbox to the "UNLOCK HERE" picture.
- 5There are four cards in each lunchbox.Our lunchbox opens and we get special cards.
- 6Our first card is "FOOD". Tap again on "FOOD" to collect it.Tap on the cards to see what they are.
- 7We got some "CAPS", which is great. Tap the caps again to collect.Tap the next card.
- 8We got a "WEAPON", an "Enhanced BB Gun". This is probably good for getting rid of varmints and critters. Tap again to collect.Tap the next card.
- 9We got 500 "CAPS", which is good. Tap to collect. There's always one rare or better card in each of these boxes.Tap the last card.
- 10Tap on the "SHOP" tab to the right.
- 11These purchases are made with real money. Where it says $9.99, that's real money. If we want to buy cards, that's absolutely up to us. We have not purchased any yet, although we may, depending on how far we get into the game.We can purchase one card, five cards, fifteen cards, or forty cards.
- 12Close the shop by pressing the "X" in the top right-hand corner.
- 13Those little rascals.Jeffrey and Dorothy have just had a little kid.
- 14Tap on the Quick Menu button again.
- 15It looks like a prize ribbon, and is second from the top.Tap the awards icon.
- 16Now we can see our "Objectives" and the rewards we get for completing them.
- 17Tap "Daily Report" to the left of "Objectives".
- 18So far, nothing has happened. It's every 24 hours. Tomorrow, we would have a daily report.Daily Report is what has happened in the day.
- 19We need to "Send 1 Dweller to the Wasteland", "Equip 1 Dweller with a Weapon" and "Successfully Rush 1 room". As we do those, we get rewards for each of them.Tap back onto the "Objectives" tab.
- 20Tap the "X" icon in the top right to exit.
- 21Tap the radio icon to open the Quick Menu.
- 22The icon looks like three stacked boxes, and is in the center of the Quick Menu.Tap the storage area.
- 23This is where all of our stuff is stored. We can equip people with items or sell items. Tap "OK" to close the "HELPFUL HINT".Now we are in the storage area.
- 24In our case, it is our "Enhanced BB Gun".Tap an item.
- 25Tap the sell icon to the left of "CANCEL".
- 26Tap it again. We made 10 caps. We could have equipped it on different people.The icon now says "OK", with a price above it.
- 27Tap "CLOSE" in the bottom right corner.
- 28Tap on the radio icon one more time.
- 29It is second from the bottom.Tap the icon shaped like a book.
- 30Here we have the Enhanced BB Gun, that's one of our weapons.This is our "Survival Guide".
- 31Here are our outfits, which we don't have.Tap "OUTFITS".
- 32We already do have some, but there are more.Tap "DWELLERS".
- 33Tap "Help" to get some more details and info.
- 34Note that sometimes this game is a little touchy, but that's fine. It's unusual for the iPhone, but that's okay.Tap on the "X" in the top right to close out.
- 35Tap on the radio again.
- 36It looks like cogs, and is the first icon from the bottom of the Quick Menu.Tap on the settings option.
- 37To change or modify something, drag or toggle it.Tapping on settings lets us turn notifications on and off and adjust the camera, the music, the sounds.
- 38We're hearing no music now because we have the music turned off so that we can complete the tutorial.Tap on "CLOSE" in the bottom right-hand corner.
