Part Two: Buildings and Runes

Phenomenal Cosmic Powers

As you've no doubt grasped by now, there is a great deal to this game that is not immediately apparent. The two weeks protection time you are given to grow in are critical to the long term success of your village. An essential component of that growth period is understanding the building types, knowing what they do, and how long it takes to maximize each one. Knowing the total resource investment in a particular building type also lets you plan your development, particularly when you have established several villages and have a predictable level of resource production. This is particularly important for power players, as you can map out exactly where you want to get and now long it takes to get there.

PRO TIP! While this information may seem trivial, knowing that it takes someone 445 hours (more than 18 days) to maximize their farms can tell you a lot about which building types to prioritize, letting you focus on building acceptable troop strength as you build your village. It can also give you an idea of how active another player is, or whether they are farming resources (low resource production and high building development indicates an active player who farms resources regularly!).

Non-Resource Building Types

These Are Your Primary 'Function' Buildings

Note that all values are base values, meaning they are not modified in any way by Artifacts or Rune upgrades. Finding Artifacts or upgrading Runes in the Celtic Tribes Game will allow you to increase or modify some of these values.

Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Also keep in mind that there is a fixed building limit of two buildings being upgraded at once. This can be increased by using Magic Potions, discussed in Part Six of the guide.

Chief House

Importance: Low

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-001.jpg
  • This building is not one you should upgrade until you plan to start conquering other villages, which requires a Druid and trading resources for silver.
  • Function: Store Bronze (up to 10,000 at max level), increase silver trade rate (1 silver per 50 resources at max level), and train Druids. At this time there is no known limit to the amount of silver you can store. I have had more than 100,000 silver. When I get to 999,999 (if I ever do) I will post more here, assuming the game is available in 15 years on the iPhone implant.
  • Max Size: 10
  • Total Resource Cost: 18,213 (Wood) 22,649 (Clay) 5,525 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 80
  • Total Build Time To Max: 129 Hours and 07 Minutes
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Training Area

Importance: Medium

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-002.jpg
  • This is an essential building if you do not use Magic Potions, and essentially useless if you use Magic Potions and money is not an object.
  • Function: This building reduces your build times by up to 50% at max level. Note that you can have more than three groups of troops training at the same time unless you use Magic Potions to increase the amount you can train. For this reason it is good to save resources to near your maximum for that troop type, and then train all at once.
  • Max Size: 30
  • Total Resource Cost: 30,176 (Wood) 44,016 (Clay) 35,786 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 137
  • Total Build Time To Max: 411 Hours and 41 Minutes
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Tavern

Importance: Low

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-003.jpg
  • This building is only important if you use it to run Tavern Missions or want Artifacts from Daily Missions.
  • Function: Each level this building is increased will make new missions available, up to a total of 14 Tavern Missions and 1 Daily mission at max level.
  • Max Size: 10
  • Total Resource Cost: 8,978 (Wood) 13,245 (Clay) 6,318 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 110
  • Total Build Time To Max: 83 Hours and 48 Minutes
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Magic Grove

Importance: High

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-004.jpg
  • This building is essential for improving the technology levels of your village.
  • Function: Each level this building is upgraded will unlock new Magic Runes (technology) up to a maximum of 18 Runes at max level. It should be noted that this building is non-essential at lower levels, other than training spears for defense.
  • Max Size: 10
  • Total Resource Cost: 10,411 (Wood) 15,973 (Clay) 13,549 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 140
  • Total Build Time To Max: 129 Hours and 16 Minutes
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Palisade

Importance: High

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-005.jpg
  • This building is a force multiplier for defensive troops. Without it your defenses are much lower.
  • Function: Each level you increase this building will improve the defensive values of your troops, and it also applies a flat defensive bonus to your village (so even with no troops your base still has a defensive value). At max level the value is a 100% defensive increase to your village, and a 1000 factor added to your total defense. The actual math is not exactly correct from what I can tell, but it is close.
  • Max Size: 30
  • Total Resource Cost: 62,777 (Wood) 56,305 (Clay) 47,039 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 185
  • Total Build Time To Max: 321 Hours and 50 Minutes
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Marketplace

Importance: Low

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-006.jpg
  • This building is not important unless you plan to farm resources. The function of carrying bronze can be carried out by your troops if you have enough.
  • Function: Each level you increase this building will improve the distance to market, trade ratio of resources to resources, and also resources to bronze. Additionally, at level 4 you will have access to Horse Carts (they carry 500 resources), and at max level you will have access to Ox Carts (they carry 2,500 resources). Also, at max level your distance to market will be 1 field, and your trade rations will be 1:1 for all resources, and 1 bronze for every 4 resources. Note that any carts you build are counted on the same build limit as troops, so you can only build three sets at any one time.
  • Max Size: 8
  • Total Resource Cost: 9,060 (Wood) 8,160 (Clay) 2,595 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 50
  • Total Build Time To Max: 92 Hours and 31 Minutes
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Farm

Importance: Essential

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-007.jpg
  • Without a Farm, you will have no population.
  • Function: Every level of Farm increases the maximum population. This is an instant increase, meaning that as soon as the farm is finished, your population immediately becomes the next number (you do not have to wait for population to grow, as in some other games). This building is essential, because almost every building has a population requirement - if you do not meet the requirement, then you can not build. The max population you can have is 9,999 at Farm level 30.
  • Max Size: 30
  • Total Resource Cost: 32,509 (Wood) 32,238 (Clay) 21,851 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 0
  • Total Build Time To Max: 445 Hours and 34 Minutes
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

PRO TIP! Aside from building Horse Carts, the Marketplace is your least important building! Any excess resources you have can simply be converted to silver in the Chief House. The time and resources you will spend maximizing your Marketplace will cost more in terms of time management than simply maximizing your Chief House to improve your silver conversion rates! That is, unless you really have nothing better to do than sit around and watch carts of resources going back and forth...

Resource Producing Building Types

Because It's Not a Party Without Resources!

These are the types of buildings that produce and store resources in the Celtic Tribes Game. They are an essential component of progression, but when you begin to develop them will depend on your style of play.

Woodcutter's Lodge

Importance: Medium

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-008.jpg

It is not an essential building at low levels, but once you have several villages and are farming resources for six hours a day, you will wish this building was at max.
  • Max Size: 30
  • Total Resource Cost: 31,633 (Wood) 36,932 (Clay) 13,330 (Ore)
  • Total Population Cost: 120

Runes and Technology - 18 Credit Hours

The Evolution of Conspiracy Theory - Professor Nikki

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-014.jpg

So, the concept of Runes is something that a few people have asked me about, so I'm adding it to the guide. Basically, Runes are (I think) one of the great things to do with your resources when you have already trained troops, upgraded buildings, and traded for silver. They aren't something you should be necessarily training 'later' - but rather a thing you can train as you grow.

Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

The reason for this is that Runes are the one item in the Celtic Tribes Game that you can keep training, and not worry about being limited to only having two active at any one time (like building upgrades), or three active (like troop building). I suppose there may be an upper limit, but I have had four or five training at once and never reached it. This is great, because you can train them over a period of days with extra resources you may have.

Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Here is a list of each Rune, posted in order, and listed with what they do. Note that some Runes at higher levels are 'locked' until you train the corresponding lower level Rune (such as the Lesser and Greater Runes of Creation), but their bonuses stack (total bonus of 12% Resource Production). I have listed what each one 'Unlocks' if there is a requirement. Don't you just love me!

Runes and Technology 301

Modern Conspiracy Theory - The Last Six Runes

If you've made it this far, you're now entering that part of You Tube where you can learn about aliens and interplanetary probes (the flying kind, you pervert). You can also learn about obscure English words and the proper use of grammar (the proper use of gramma

Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help
is available on USENET if you're not interested in pronouncing it with the obligatory ending letter 'r' - Timberland
spends a lot of time there, as opposed to the Timberland boots he sometimes wears).

Greater Rune of Creation - the Wife Rune

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-027.jpg

Importance: Essential if you do not want to be a resource farmer.

  • Function: This Rune gives a stacking 8% bonus to all resource production. This is in addition to the 4% bonus from the lesser rune, and also stacks with the bonuses from Artifacts. With one Village, and the 'Complete' Artifact patter of Stone Goblets, you can reach a total resource bonus of 68%, which is the single largest production bonus in the game. With Bronze, Silver, or Gold Artifacts, it goes much higher.
  • Unlocks: Nothing
  • Total Resource Cost: 2700 (Wood) 2700 (Clay) 300 (Ore)
  • Total Build Time: 15 Hours and 00 Minutes
  • Total Population Cost: 20
  • Magic Grove Level: 7
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Rune of Strength

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-028.jpg

Importance: Important if you attack with Infantry.

  • Function: A Rune that provides a 5% attack bonus to all attacking Infantry units. As the Axe Man is your Infantry
attack unit, this augments an already powerful attacker.
  • Unlocks: Nothing
  • Total Resource Cost: 2800 (Wood) 700 (Clay) 3500 (Ore)
  • Total Build Time: 16 Hours and 00 Minutes
  • Total Population Cost: 15
  • Magic Grove Level: 7

Rune of the Wind - The Husband Rune

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-029.jpg

Importance: Important if you attack with Cavalry.

  • Function: It provides all Cavalry attacks with a 5% bonus to their attack damage.
  • Unlocks: Nothing
  • Total Resource Cost: 3500 (Wood) 2800 (Clay) 700 (Ore)

  • Total Population Cost: 15
  • Magic Grove Level: 8

Rune of Zeal

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-030.jpg

Importance: Low importance, as it is a minor benefit that takes a very long time to reach.

  • Function: This Rune provides a 5% increase to the speed of all units, but it is marginally useful, as it takes such a long time to unlock, and doesn't help significantly once you're upgraded other buildings enough to consider upgrading Runes to this level.
  • Unlocks: Nothing
  • Total Resource Cost: 3000 (Wood) 3000 (Clay) 4000 (Ore)
  • Total Build Time: 20 Hours and 00 Minutes
  • Total Population Cost: 10
  • Magic Grove Level: 8
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Greater Rune of Protection

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-031.jpg

Importance: Extremely Important.

  • Function: One of the best Runes, this one provides an 8% increase to unit defense. This is in addition to any other bonuses. With the right pattern of Artifacts, significant defense bonuses can be reached. For example, a player with all Stone Shield Artifacts, who has one castle, and uses the 'Complete' pattern, would have a total defensive bonus of 105% - which is the single largest bonus in the game provided by any combination of objects. That is just with Stone Artifacts. Use the higher tiers of Bronze, Silver, and Gold, and you can really push this bonus off the charts.
  • Unlocks: Nothing
  • Total Resource Cost: 4950 (Wood) 4950 (Clay) 4950 (Ore)
  • Total Build Time: 20 Hours and 00 Minutes
  • Total Population Cost: 20
  • Magic Grove Level: 9
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Greater Rune of Fortitude

Howikis-celtic-tribes-part-two-032.jpg

Importance: Essential to attackers.

  • Function: If you attack regularly, this rune enhances your troops by an additional 8%. This is in addition to the bonus already given by the lesser attack Runes, meaning an attacker could have a constant 12% Attack bonus, plus any Artifact bonuses.
Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Unlocks: Nothing

  • Total Resource Cost: 4000 (Wood) 7000 (Clay) 9000 (Ore)
  • Total Build Time: 24 Hours and 00 Minutes
  • Total Population Cost: 20
  • Magic Grove Level: 10

PRO TIP! There is no limit to the number of runes you can be learning at one time.
