Phone says "Too many pattern attempts" on my Galaxy Y. How can I unlock it?
That message will appear if you , or someone else, attempted to unlock your phone with the wrong codes or lock pattern. Depending on your phone's version that message will appear when you consecutively enter the wrong password or lock for 5-10 times. You will need to wait for 30 seconds before the phone allows you to unlock your phone using the codes or pattern. If you keep on entering the wrong access code or pattern, then the phone will stay on the "too many pattern attempts" notification and the only way to get back to it again is by entering your Google account that had been previously set with the device, or perform a Hard Reset on your Galaxy Y. If you have previously Set Up Google Account on Samsung Galaxy S4 , then you will only have to enter the Google account username and password to get back into your phone.
If you were not able to associate your Galaxy Y with a Google account, then you may need to do a Hard Reset on your phone. This process will delete all the data on your phone and will restore it to its original settings. Data on the memory card won't be affected though but just to be sure, remove the memory card before doing the Hard Reset.
- To Hard Reset on your device turn it off.
- Once shut down, press and hold the Home+Volume Up+Power buttons to boot your device into recovery mode.
- Once on recovery mode, release the buttons and press the Volume keys to navigate to "Wipe data / Factory reset".
- Press the Home button to confirm action and your phone will be restored to factory settings. You will now have access to your phone.
Does the phone prompt you to sign in with your Google account after the failed pattern attempts? If yes, then just sign in with the account you used when you first set up the phone. If not, then you will have to Hard Reset the phone. Power off the phone, then boot into recovery mode by pressing home, power and volume up buttons together. In the menu that comes up, choose wipe data/Factory Reset and reboot when done.
