Get a Man to Put More Effort Into a Relationship

My boyfriend is becoming distant and cold and hurtful?

Over the past week he says he's "given up" because "nothing works" when he puts in effort for me which of course I've saw differently, this past week has been awful and he will not even say I love you, being really cold, not looking at me, I feel like he's avoiding me and it's the most painful thing especially because when he's not like this he's the most loving affectionate person to me, that's why it hurts so much, I just want to know what I can do, and I'm afraid that if I give him ultimatums, the way he is right now, I'm scared he wouldn't care!? Is there things I can do to change this all round to how it used to be again, thank you x
