We want you to be successful in growing your topic area. This HowTo will show you how to use our queries and trending tools to manage and grow your topic area. For this Wiki I will be using "Relationships" as the topic.
Researching your Topic: Build a Topic Tree Using Meta Data
- 1As previously mentioned, this Wiki will assume your topic is "Relationships"Identify your "Topic Keywords".
- Go to Google, Yahoo and startpage.com and type in "relationships". Scroll to the bottom and look at the related searches. In my case Google came up with: relationships quotes, types of relationships, relationships problems, relationships advice, love relationships, healthy relationships, family relationships, relationship tips.
- Let's say I click on "love relationships". Now I scroll to the bottom and find more detailed related searches. One I see is "long distance relationships". If I click on that I get more suggestions.
- REPEAT THE PRECEDING STEPS FOR KEYWORDS YOU THINK OF THAT ARE RELATED AS WELL. In my case Google made no mention of "jealousy," which is huge, but Yahoo did. Neither of them mentioned "cheating", which sadly is another big topic in relationships.
- 2Now construct a Topic Tree using both keywords you see in searches and keywords from related searches

Now that I have lots of ideas about what keywords apply to relationships, I will search to find out how our site is currently doing. The keywords I am choosing to look for are:

Right away I notice:

So I look the actual Wiki [know if a guy has a girlfriend] and I see no such section exists. In fact, the word "signs" does not even appear !! So our visitors are telling us they want to see a Wiki on this and we don't have it yet.
Fantastic. Remember our goal is to be the most in-depth Wiki. If the visitor wants it... we want to write about it. So this is a perfect addition to this document. By the time you read this it is entirely possible that this Wiki has been improved to include this section so please don't be confused if its already there. If you want to see today's version you can always look in the revision history. I think this link will show you the Wiki frozen at the date/time of this writing
Last week I added this section using this same method: "I want ask a boy out but what if he has a girlfriend?"
Don't always add the new sections on the bottom. Try to find the best place in the Wiki to put your addition. As a Wiki grows, often the user requested sections fit best near the bottom. You may choose to group them by sub-topic, or order them in any way that makes sense for your readers. Try to avoid putting new sections always at the bottom. The goal is to make a flowing document for the reader so add the section where it best fits in your opinion.
This following is just a few additions that could be made to this wiki. Some could also be their own wiki. Its really a judgement call. In the next section I will show you a few more I would probably write as their own wiki.

Look at the last one I picked. If this Wiki is already popular, this title would be great as it's own Wiki. (Please note I changed girlfriend to girlfriend in case your searching for this in the list). Make sure it qualifies to serve as its own Wiki. It must be different enough not to be the same Wiki with a different title! We want to write new content, not re-hash old Wikis.

Note: Matt suggested to use "boyfriend" instead of "guy" since most people would refer to their guy as a boyfriend.
Perhaps we could call it "How to handle an insecure boyfriend who checks your email and text"
As you can see, every day we can check for new ideas users want us to write about using the trending tool. So this is a continuous cycle that we can use to keep writing each day on our chosen topic. If you actually do run out of something to write about then go to the Topic Tree we created in the beginning and write a new wiki from that research. After a week or so hopefully we will get searches to expand those wikis.
Make new Wikis based on already popular Wikis
So we can see we are getting a decent number of searches every day for "How to know if a guy has a girlfriend". Great! Why not now write a Wiki on "How to know if a girl has a boyfriend" ?
When you write a Wiki like this. Don't expect the new Wiki to gain popularity instantly. You will still need to apply the same work to expand the Wiki based on user demand. Guys may not have the same concerns around this topic as girls. Don't just write the same content over again. Try to consider how guys and girls and different and thus would want different information in the Wiki. Then watch the searches come in over the next few weeks and begin to expand the Wiki based on user demand just as we have demonstrated earlier in this Wiki.
Use the topic tree to build your categories to organize the Wikis
Be organized right from the start. Use the info you put together building your topic tree as a category page. Talk with ENG on how to do this. Provide him with your list and he can set this up for you.
