Hello! Welcome to VisiHow! In this video, we are going to show you how to limit data usage on the HTC One M8.
To begin, let's turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on top of the phone. Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen.
To unlock the phone, tap the screen, hold down until we see the lock icon, and then swipe up. Once the phone is unlocked, we will see the Home screen, and there will be icons at the bottom of the screen. We need to find the "Settings" menu now. To do that, we need to swipe the notifications panel down.
To do that, we tap and hold the top of the screen and swipe down. Now, a notification panel will appear. There is a white cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This is the settings icon.
We tap the settings icon to open up the "Settings" menu. The word "Settings" will be written in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Just below "Settings", there are the words "WIRELESS & NETWORKS" in a gray bar. This is the section in which we need to be.
We scroll down a little bit until we see the "More" section. In this section, there are the words "Data usage, HTC Mini+, NFC..." We have a menu icon next to the word "More". The icon has three gray circles in a row.
If we tap the "More" section, the phone is going to bring up our extra options. We want the first option. The option on the top that says "Data usage" because this tutorial is on how we can limit the data usage.
We tap the "Data usage" section, which is the first section. We have the option that says "Limit mobile data usage" in the "Data usage" section. This can be very useful for us if we want to stop ourselves from using too much data. There is a box in the section.
We tap the box next to "Limit mobile data usage" if we want to limit mobile data. A white check will be put inside. The box will be made green. A visual option, or a little piece of information, will also be brought up that will say "Data usage limit" and "Your mobile data connection will be turned off when the specified limit is reached. Since data usage is measured by your phone, and your carrier may account for usage differently, consider using a conservative limit". The phone is advising to use the conservative limit because the main difference is in the measurements of the data usage by our phone and by our carriers. We may have different measurements, and it's better to be conservative and use a lower limit.
We tap "OK" then to go back to the "Data usage" menu. The box will be checked and turned green to show that the option is activated.
If we scroll down, there is a table. This is our data usage. Right now, we have a limit. There are a line, red circle, and the words with numbers. In this example, it says "4.8GB LIMIT". That's our limit.
If we want to edit the limit, we tap anywhere on the line. We tap the line, and it will turn red. If we tap and hold, we can scroll the line up and down until we have reached a limit with which we are happy. In the example, it is set to 2.8GB now. It can be good for us.
We tap and hold the table. We can set the limit even lower. Even though the line moves back up to the top, we should not worry about that, because the limit is actually changed. For example, it is now at 320 megabytes.
If we drag the line down, the line is not going stay in the position where we hold it. It will go back up, but the phone will be actually still changing the limit. We should not be afraid of that.
If we want to increase the limit, we drag the line up. This feels a bit strange because we have to drag the line and keep swiping up, going off the screen. It feels a bit different, but it is what we need to do; so we have to be aware of that. If the limit is good for us, and we set it. We set our data usage and limited it to a certain amount.
This concludes our tutorial on how to limit data usage on the HTC One M8. If you have any questions or comments about this video or about the process in this video, then please leave them in the comment section below. We shall answer them for you.
