Jailbreak an iPhone in 2019
Edited by Barbara Vega, Elizabeth Warren
This is a complete guide on how to install software that are essential to jailbreaking an iDevice. Jailbreaking is a process that is used to acquire privileges to install apps and tweaks that cannot be typically installed or allowed in the Apple App Store. It will also give the user more control over their iDevice even though it is a practice that is highly de-incentivised by Apple.
Jailbreak Preparation
Part 1: Jailbreak Prerequisites
Check iDevice compatibility. Open settings > General > About > Check the number that is displayed to the right side of "version". The number that is displayed here concerns the iOS version the user is currently using. But generally, jailbreaks are available for the following iOS versions:
- iOS 11.2 - 11.3.1
- iOS 11 - 11.1.2
- iOS 10 - 10.3.3 (32-bit)

- 5Plug the iPhone's charging code's USB end to the USB port on the PC.Connect iDevice to the PC.

- 7This is to prevent Apple restrictions from occurring during the jailbreak. Settings > Airplane Mode.Put the device in Airplane mode.

- 8It will begin its initial setup and it will take up a few minutes for this and once it's finished, the device will reboot. Once it reboots, the jailbreaking process will be completed.Launch Cydia.
- 9Because future updates will likely break your pertaining jailbreak and prevent the device from another future jailbreak. It is necessary to remember to avoid updating your iPhone.
Part 6: iOS 8.0 - 8.4
- 1You can jailbreak iOS 8.0 - 8.4 but there is no jailbreak available for iOS 8.4.1. It is not possible to downgrade to iOS 8.1.3 - 8.4 either.Check for device jailbreak compatibility.

- 3If you're jailbreaking 8.0 - 8.1.2, download V1.2.1.It is important to remember that when downloading the Windows version, be sure to download V2.4.5 for iOS 8.1.3 - 8.4.
- 4Launch TaiG and you'll see your device displayed in the main window which will take a moment to appear.
- 5Make sure to keep the "Cydia" box checked as it is the most essential component of the jailbreaking process.Uncheck the "3K Assistant" box as it is not required for the jailbreak process to be successful.
- 6The jailbreaking process will begin and you can monitor the progress in the TaiG window. Your iPhone will likely reboot several times during the jailbreak, therefore, no need to panic.Click Start in the TaiG.
- 7Once you see "Jailbreak succeeded!" in the TaiG window, you can find Cydia on one of your iPhone's Home screens. If you can't find it simply swipe down on your screen and search for "Cydia." Then wait for Cydia to configure and reboot, this process will happen automatically. When you launch Cydia for the first time, it will configure its file system and then reboot your iDevice. Once the iPhone has been rebooted, the jailbreaking process will be completed.Launch Cydia once the jailbreak process has been completed.
- 8If you want to keep using your jailbreak make sure to avoid official updates at all costs.Avoid future updates because if you update your device to the latest version of iOS, you'll lose your jailbreak as well as your ability to revert to iOS 8.
Post issues/ warnings and Fix notices
It is imperative that you know if restoring your device after jailbreaking in order to fix it, but it fails to do so; you might require to do a factory reset. But know that this will wipe out everything in the system and drivers except of course, the operating system.
Other than that, You must exercise extreme caution when it comes to downloading tweaks from external sources and other unsupported third party files from Cydia.
As jailbreaking does ultimately violate Apple's terms of use, you must know that it may increase the security risks, vulnerabilities, instability and disruptions of other Apple services. This is because at the end of the day, Apple reserves the right to deny service to any and every device that do have used unauthorized modifications to their system and software.
