To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button on the right-hand side of the phone

Once the phone has been activated you will see the lock screen.

Swipe the lock screen up to go to the home screen

Find the Store tile
.
It has a blue tile background and the Store tile often flips over to show you information about different applications that are available. Your images and writing will be different than mine because you have different searches and apps downloaded. The one thing that you will see that will be the same is the Windows icon in a shopping bag. If you do not have the store tile pinned to your home screen, swipe left to find it in the apps menu. Tap the icon to open it.

To find the Lumia Video Trimmer application, press the search icon, which is a white magnifying glass inside of a circle

Now we are in the search function and we can write in the text bar

When you tap the text bar a keypad will appear. Type "video trimmer" and press the enter button, which is a black arrow in a white box. This will search for the application.

The first application is "Lumia Video Trimmer", so press that to see more information

The application is already installed on the phone, but if you want to install it, press "install" where "view" currently is on my phone

Press "install" and wait for the application to install. When it is finished, you will see the word "view" and you can tap that to view the application.

Tapping on "view" will take you to the app in the applications menu

If you've just installed it, it will say "NEW" in green little letters. Tap on the application to open it.

To trim the video, there are two circles; one at the start of the video, and one at the end of the video clip

Press down on each circle to move it up and down the scale

The scale represents the entire time of the video (20 seconds long).

The two sets of numbers show where the two trimming circles are

Right now, the first circle is at the 1-second mark of the video and the end circle is at the 20-second mark of the video

If you move the end circle, the second time will change

There are two main reasons that people use a trimming application
.
The first is to tidy up a video. People are often not prepared, or at the start of the video there's some disruption, the camera isn't focused, etc. Sometimes at the end of the video, the camera is on longer than it needs to be. Some people will cut the start and the end off just to tidy up the video process. You can do that just by moving the two circles.

The other reason people use a trimming application is to select one specific part of a video
.
If a video is very long, or there's something very exciting and important in a video and you just want to have one part of the video, you can trim almost all of the video so there are just a few seconds. Now the two circles are very close, and if we trim the video like this it will trim all of the start and all of the end, leaving a few seconds of video footage. It is very important to remember that once you trim this video, it will save it as it is, and you will lose the original version.

Once you're happy with it, save it by pressing the save icon, which looks like an old-fashioned floppy disk in a white circle
