You're watching VisiHow, and today we are going to show you how to download, install and use a QR code reader on your Samsung Galaxy S5 or S5 Mini.
To get started, give a single press to the power button on the right side of the phone.
When the lock screen comes up, you could swipe across the screen to open up the Home screen. You may have a different way of opening your Home screen, such as a PIN number.
We need to find the Google Play Store. The icon is a little white briefcase with a triangle inside. Find that and press it. If you don't have the icon on the Home screen, you can tap on the Apps icon at the bottom right corner. The Apps icon is a series of white squares. Tap on that to open up the Applications folder. Swipe around until you find the Play Store icon.
Let's tap on the search box at the top of the screen.
Type in QR code readers, or in this case just Q. At the top of the suggested list is QR Scanner, so we'll go with that.
Now, we'll need to choose one to download. Let's look at the first one, QR Code Reader from Scan, Inc. They also have an application for the iPhone, which has a really strong set of reviews.
This one has some fairly good reviews, but one of the negative reviews is saying it doesn't scan. However, everyone else says it works great.
Let's tap the left arrow at the top left corner of the screen to go back.
We'll look at the QR Scanner by Droid. Looks like they have some better reviews. One negative review says something about it crashing.
Out of the two apps, one doesn't work, and one crashes. Fantastic. I know how to use QR code readers, but I am not as familiar with these two specifically. The one from Scan, Inc. has more than 10 million downloads and 352,000 reviews. Keeping those numbers in our head, we'll look at the other one again. The one from Droid also has 10 million, but only 312,000 reviews. However, more people gave it a plus one than the other one. So I'm going to go with the one from Droid. To install it, tap the green Install button on the right side of the screen.
It's going to tell you that Droid scanner needs to access some things. That's fine, so press Accept at the bottom.
Now, it will start downloading. It's a small download, only 14.48 MB. When it's finished, tap Open, the green button on the right. This will launch our QR code scanner.
It should already have access to the camera, so it should be able to read stuff. Let's try to scan a QR code. We'll put it in front of the camera.
It has scanned the code. It gives us a message stating, Select default action after scan. Our choices are Ask me or Open URL. We'll choose Open URL.
Now, we'll need to choose a browser. Let's use Chrome.
Now, the website opens, and we have royal-dansk.com, pineapple ravioli.
This is how you download, install and use a QR code reader on the Samsung Galaxy S5. When you are finished looking at the website, give a single press to the Home button at the bottom of your phone to take you back to the Home screen.
This concludes our tutorial. Thank you for using VisiHow.
