Install a CO Detector

Safety is a major concern in every home. Installing a carbon monoxide detector will make your worries fly away.

All products usually come with a complete instruction and installation manual. Most products are usually very easy to install, but make sure you read and follow the instructions provided within the packaging. If you still cannot successfully mount your new detector, try to follow these easy steps.

   Determine Location

   Identify where to intelligently place your CO2 alarm(s). Usually and preferably they are placed near your bedroom. Some would also place it near the kitchen area, where possible leaks and sources of carbon monoxide are present.

   Mount the Alarm

   .

   Securely mount your alarm in the area you have chosen. Alarms are designed to be mounted as a corded unit. You may directly plug it in a socket available on your walls. If the transformer or adapter is taken out of the unit, the alarm can be mounted on the wall at an eye level for easy reference.

   Power Back-Up

   .

   Make sure to be ready in case of a power outage. Since the system you will have is entirely electrically dependent. You must at all times be ready with a 9V battery to back up the unit. Recommended to be used while installing the device is an Energizer 522 or a Duracell MN 1604. If you want to use one for extensive life, you may opt to go for an Ultra life lithium powered cell model U9VL. These brands of batteries are easily available in any hardware stores near you. To install your backup batteries, just open the back portion of your alarm and snap the battery connector into the battery. You will hear a sound that signals that you have successfully placed your batteries.

   Plug it in

   .

   As you have done in the previous three steps, you are now ready to plug the alarm into a standard, unswitched 120 volt AC electric outlet.

   System Check

   .

   You will either see a red flashing dot or three eights in the display indicating that the alarm is warming up. This means that you have successfully installed the unit. After approximately 20 seconds, the first reading will appear on the display. You must see on the display only zero (0). If not then consult your manufacturer about a defect on the item or call the customer service hotline if available.

   Test the Unit

   .

   The red dot you have seen should continuously blink. Test the unit to see if it is functioning properly by pressing and releasing the "Test/Reset" button. After 15 seconds, you will hear four quick beeps followed by five seconds of silence, then followed by four quick beeps. If these are achieved, you are almost done with your setup.

   Complete the Installation

   .

   After doing the six preceding steps, you are now ready to test if the unit can really wake you up with its loud alarm. Try to ask help from other members of the family or someone who can assist you. Try to test the alarm of the unit by doing step 6. While testing you should be in your sleeping area with the door closed to test if you can clearly hear the noise from the alarm. If yes, then you have successfully installed your alarm and it will now monitor for the presence of carbon monoxide in your home.
