Install WhatsApp on PC for Windows 10

WhatsApp is arguably the most popular global messaging system on the internet with more than a billion registered users. Unfortunately, it requires a SIM card to work, which means that you normally can't use WhatsApp on a desktop PC or on an iPad. This creates problems for some users, because while there's almost nothing your mobile phone can't do these days, there are quite a few things your Windows 10 PC still does better. One of those things is keyboard-typing instead of touchscreen-tapping. Thanks to BlueStacks, you can now run WhatsApp from Google Play Store on your desktop or laptop PC, amazing your friends with how fast you can write and answer messages. In the tutorial below, we will show you everything you need to know to get started with WhatsApp on your PC. However, before you can use WhatsApp from your desktop, you need three things:
- download and install BlueStacks on your Windows 10 PC;
- set up a BlueStacks account on your Windows 10 PC;
- Have a phone that can receive an SMS message from WhatsApp.
Download and Install WhatsApp for PC
Before you can use WhatsApp, you need to download and install it from BlueStacks. This is because BlueStacks is an emulator. Without BlueStacks, WhatsApp won't run natively on your PC; and you'll have to use the web application instead.
- 1This will launch the program.From your desktop, double-click the BlueStacks icon.
- 2Type 'WhatsApp'.When BlueStacks opens, click the search bar at the top.
- 3Note that this may take several seconds.Wait for the search to be completed.
- 4Click 'WhatsApp' to continue.Once the search has been completed, you will see WhatsApp in the results.
- 5This usually takes several seconds, but depending on your connection, it may take longer.Wait for BlueStacks to contact Google Play Store.
- 6Click 'INSTALL' to initiate the download and installation process.You should now see the Google Play Store download page for the WhatsApp Messenger.
- 7This will tell you what the application will have access to. Simply click 'ACCEPT' to continue.Next, you will see a pop-up notification.
- 8The speed depends on your Internet connection. Once WhatsApp has been downloaded, BlueStacks will automatically install the WhatsApp messenger. The speed of the installation depends on your computer. Proceed to the next section to set up WhatsApp on your computer.Wait for the download and installation process to finish.
Setup WhatsApp for PC
Now that WhatsApp has been downloaded and installed to your computer, you can set it up. In order to set up WhatsApp, you need to have an internet connection and a mobile phone with a working telephone number. This is so that you can receive the SMS from WhatsApp and enter the information into WhatsApp on your Windows 10 PC with BlueStacks.
- 1Click "Terms of Service and Privacy Policy" to read it and click 'Agree and continue' at the bottom of the window if you agree to the terms and policy.WhatsApp will be launched once the install process has been completed.
- 2First, choose the country code. In our case, it says 'United States'. To select another country, click it to open the drop-down menu.Next, you will be required to set up your phone number.
- 3Since we are in the Republic of Georgia, we will select 'Georgia' for our country code.In the drop-down menu, scroll down to find your country.
- 4Note that you need to enter the phone number without your country code.Once the country code has been selected, enter your phone number.
- 5When you have put in your phone number, click the right arrow.
- 6This usually takes several seconds.Wait for the connection process to finish.
- 7If this is correct, then click 'OK'. If it's not correct, click 'Edit', correct the number, and click 'OK'.Now, you need to verify your number.
- 8This requires the input of a six-digit code that you should have received on your mobile by now. If you did not receive the code, click 'Resend SMS' or click 'Call me'.Next, you will need to verify your phone number.
- 9Once the number is verified, WhatsApp will start loading any account backups you may have.After entering the code, your number will be verified.
- 10Just click the photo to add a photo and click the name field to edit your name. When you have finished, click once on 'Next'.You can now set up your nickname and choose your photo.
- 11Click 'Continue' to start using WhatsApp.WhatsApp has now been installed on your Windows 10 PC, and the account has been set up.
- 12You can also chat using the WhatsApp application on your Windows PC.You can now invite friends and contacts by clicking the 'Invite a Friend' button at the bottom.
Additional Tips
- If you do not receive an SMS message from WhatsApp to your mobile phone, don't worry. There is an option to have WhatsApp call you with a code to set up the app. Just click the call option. Then, write down the verification code and enter it into WhatsApp to get connected.
- Sometimes, contacts might not immediately synchronize from BlueStacks to your mobile. Usually, restarting WhatsApp corrects this.
- If you receive images or files on your PC through WhatsApp, deleting them from WhatsApp means they will not be available on your mobile later.
