Hi, you are watching VisiHow. Today we are going to show you how to mount and unmount a SD memory card in your Samsung Galaxy S5. That mount and unmount also means install and uninstall. What we have here is a Kingston, 16 GB SD memory card. It is actually a microSD card. You should be able to find any microSD card for around one dollar per gigabyte, and considerably less than that if you are buying larger cards or shopping at places like Amazon or other discount areas. Let's get this opened up and then we will get started. There's probably going to be some paperwork with this which we are not going to need. If you are going to put your card into a computer or anything else like that you are going to use this little piece here, your SD card is going to slide into the slot, and you will put it into your computer. When you are done, you will remove the SD card.

    Insert the SD card
    .
Now, as you can see, there are little silver shiny pins in here. That is where our little gold pins, on our SD card, are going to touch. So just, slide the SD card in there. There is no need to apply force as it slides in smoothly. It sits right in there is just a little space left.

Now we are going to take our battery and match up the metal parts. Push the battery into the back. For those of you who have a single SIM card phone, I am using duos, so there are two SIM cards. For now, I only have one but I might fill that other SIM.

    There we go
    .
The SD card will be unmounted, and now my SD card is unmounted. Now, when I reinsert my card later, I will simply click on 'mount SD card' and it will very quickly mount my card. It is very important that you mount and unmount your SD card properly. Otherwise, you could damage the card much like plugging and unplugging a hard drive from your system.

    Then tap on 'settings'
    .
Some of you will notice that Samsung phones can be a little sluggish. That has nothing to do with the hardware. Specifically, it is the operating system. Samsung has what is known as 'TouchWiz', which is their little wrapper which goes around Android, and that slows things down.

Then if we scroll down, you can see there is no SD card and mount SD card is grayed out because there is no SD card inserted in the phone
    .
That is how you mount and unmount, or install and uninstall, a SD card in Samsung Galaxy S5 or in Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. This also works for any Samsung phone, which has the same similar function of taking the back cover off in order to put in your SD card. Questions and Answers

Do you know what size of SD card an iPhone 5S takes? Or does a microSD card fit in an iPhone 5S at all?

I am trying to fit a microSD card to an iPhone 5S and it is a microSD card. I didn't think there were any smaller sizes but it seems that it's not fitting.

Unfortunately, the Apple iPhone 5S is not compatible with any form of SD cards. The only card that is compatible with any iPhone is a SIM card, which does not hold pictures or other information (aside from a few contacts and text messages). Trying to insert an SD card of some kind into the SIM card slot on your Apple iPhone 5S may and probably will damage the slot and prevent your phone from connecting to your carrier's network. Inserting an SD card may also physically damage the slot itself, so you have a protruding SIM card try on your phone which could also prevent your phone from connecting to your carrier's network. In the future, do not attempt to insert the SD card you own into your Apple iPhone 5S: it won't work and it could permanently damage your phone.

Are SD cards compatible with all androids?

I opened my Galaxy S5 looking to install an SD card from a previous Android to retrieve pictures, and I am not sure if I see one. Do they all come with one loaded?

microSD cards are purchased separately from the phone. The microSD card slot is right above the battery in Samsung Galaxy S5, and the slot should be empty when you remove the battery for the first time. Other phones, all of the iOS and some Android phones, may or may not have the microSD card slot.

Is the High Speed Micro SDHC the right card?

Just wanted to be sure before I open the phone

Yes, these cards will work; but make sure that the one you install is no more than 128 GB in capacity. Source: http://www.samsung.com/ie/support/skp/faq/1043472

On my Samsung 5 phone, pictures are not good?

Yesterday I bought a larger memory, the Samsung store did change it and put back all what the other card had, my pictures came damaged. I wonder why?

I want to dump all my files from current SD to PC, then to a new, bigger SD card. Is it as easy as it sounds, do I just select every file and copy to PC, then put in the new SD card and copy it from PC to new card?

Never done this before, where I dump everything off an existing SD card and then put in a new one and put it all back onto the new card. It's probably really easy, but I cannot risk losing pics and app saved data etc, and if you're around...it might be easier to just ask you!

First make sure you can view and select hidden and system files in your PC explorer, then select all and copy to PC. Do not wipe the old SD card, until you are sure everything is working fine with the new SD copied to card.

If my S5 can't turn on, can I safely take the microSD card out?

My phone has a charging problem, so it is dead. I am wondering if I can take the microSD card out without corrupting anything. My phone cannot turn on, so I can't go into unmounting or mounting

Since your phone is already OFF, you can safely take out the SD card. The unmount process is only needed if you are going to take out the SD card while the phone is turned ON.

Samsung Galaxy S5 - unlocking directions maybe broke the mini SD card slot?

AT&T gave me instructions on how to unlock this phone. They emailed "insert a SIM card from another carrier in place of the AT&T card".  ?? A YouTube video on the same thing said to insert a blank SD card, so I was surprised. I had an old SIM from TMobile which didn't fit, so I cut down the sides and tried to insert it. Didn't fit. So I tried to insert my SD card in place of the AT&T SIM. I restarted and It didn't read it, just gave the "no SIM, emergency calls only". I replaced the AT&T SIM, & the mini SD card, which always sat in the phone as exterior memory & contained data & programs. The phone isn't recognizing it, all the programs are ghosted & it doesn't show up in My Files. I bought another card, tried it, and it goes unrecognized. I'm guessing I'm going to have to try a factory reset next, though not looking forward to having to remember passwords for all the permanently signed-on programs. If this doesn't work do you have any suggestions? And why would AT&T want me to use a SIM from another carrier if they aren't interchangeable? If I were a conspiracy theorist (yes, Real Time with Bill Maher is on in the background), I would wonder if this advice was supposed to break the ability of the phone to have additional memory & cause me to have to upgrade. If the factory reset works, I come back with the good news. The article is describing a process which is going well, no problems. My situation is nothing but problems. I have tried: As I said in the beginning, I tried the unlock with the TMobile card, which didn't work. I tried a blank SD card, after restarting the phone with the usual setup of AT&T SIM and the one which had been living in the phone for about 2 years. Didn't work. Tried starting in safe mode. Nothing different. I think it was caused by: Wondering if there's damage in the slot? Also see the conspiracy theory.

Where is the SIM card unmount located in Galaxy S5?

Under Settings - System - Storage, there is no option to mount/unmount a SIM card. There is only space, memory, used space and cache information. Also, there are no menu dots in the upper right corner. The mount/unmount option is not available and there is no menu option either. I have tried: Searching through all the settings options.
