Insert a SIM Card in Your iPhone 6
Edited by Leomar Umpad, Grimm, Eng, Dougie
You are watching VisiHow and today we are going to show you how to put a SIM card in your iPhone 6.
Steps
1
To start with, you are going to press the Lock button which is on the right side of your phone
.
Single press is going to open that up.
2
Then you are just going to slide or swipe across the bottom of your screen
.
That's going to take you to the Home screen on your phone.
3
Once you are on the Home screen of your phone, you will see at the top that there is an indication that you have no service
.
No Service means that there is no SIM card currently installed in your phone.
4
In order to install a SIM card, you need to have one of the latest, and newest, micro-SIM cards
.
You can have an older SIM card which you could have cut. However, it is generally preferred that you have a micro-SIM card as any other type of SIM card is not going to fit in the phone.
5
In my case, I have this micro-SIM card here, I'm just going to take it
.
It's already been registered and activated with the cell carrier.
6
I'm going to peel this little piece of tape off of here
.
Give me a moment because the tape never really quite peels off the way it should unless you have fingernails - I am not that kind of guy.
7
We pop the SIM card off - our micro-SIM is out
.
To those of you who have not used a micro-SIM card before, these things are really, really tiny.
8
This is the tool that we will use to pull out / push in the SIM card cassette holder
.
Just to give you an idea how small that is in comparison - it's very, very small.
9
Headphone ear buds next to it
.
You see, headphone ear buds are bigger than the SIM card. Let's put this SIM card down for a moment.
10
What are we going to do is take our phone
.
We pick it up and we are going to turn it on its side, the same side as the Power or the Unlock button. Here's our Home button at the bottom, here's our Power and Unlock button and the Volume's buttons on the other side.
11
We are going to take this pointy device that we have here that comes with some iPhones
.
For those of you watched our tutorial or unboxing of this, you will notice that I did not have one of this, you will notice that I did not have one of this in my phone. It was not included with it. Some of the phones don't include them. I'm not sure why but that is Apple's decision.
12
As you see here, there's a little tiny hole
.
We are just going to simply insert this into that tiny hole. Once it is inserted, you should see that it still moves around. It's not like a super tight fit but it sits. You can feel that it pushes a little button. I'll pull that with my fingers.
13
It's about that much is going to be in the bottom
.
You see, it's very very little but it's just enough.
14
What I would like to do is put two of my fingers on either side of it and then hold the other side of the phone so the phone is nice and firmly held.
15
Just use one finger and push - just a slow pushing effort
.
As you slowly push, you see that the SIM card slowly slides up. Now the phone wakes up and says that, "Hi,! There's no SIM card installed." We already knew that. That's why we have the no service warning.
16
Now, take your fingers and pull this little tray out
.
It takes a little bit of effort to pull it but don't apply too much effort.
17
Here's a stuck T-Mobile looking mini SIM in here - same, same
.
Sat that down as it comes with the phone.
18
Now, we take our SIM card - our functioning SIM card
.
We just put that in there. Now note, there's a little hole here. Sorry I'm off the screen a bit. There's a little hole here. That is the hold that slides right into the side of the phone right here. Just like that.
19
Your SIM card should sit right down in the top of that
.
Not in the bottom. You don't have to flip it around or do anything crazy.
20
You see on the bottom here, there are some marks
.
See those marks? On the top, there are no marks. The top should be nice and smooth.
21
Your SIM should sit in there easily. Listen - you have a little clicks. Maybe you can't hear it. The SIM sits in there nicely. There's just a tiny little bit of wiggle room but that's not really a big deal because once I put the SIM cassette, the cassette is this silver thing, back in here into the iPhone hold or the SIM card holder, it's going to be nice and tight and snug.
22
Now, I just want to set this on the edge and slide it in nice and easy
.
I'm applying almost no pleasure sliding it. Then I reach a point, right about here, and now I have pressure. Let me show you that again. A nice, easy slide in. If it does not slide in easy, especially if you cut your SIM card, that means you need to fix your SIM card so it's nice and smooth.
23
I'm at this point that it does not slide easy so I'm going to put 1 finger on the back side here and then my thumb here and then slowly and gently push that in
.
See, it just popped right in. If you have to apply a lot of pressure, you are doing something wrong and you could damage your iPhone. The iPhone is a thousand-dollar phone, you probably don't want to apply too much pressure. Now your SIM card is in the phone.
24
Give your Home button a press - down at the bottom
.
You should see that it is now searching - give this a moment to focus. There we go - Searching. You could also pushed the Home button over here on the other side - single press for that.
25
It shows me that it has No Service
.
Let's go ahead and slide across here to slide into our phone.
26
Now you can see that I've got service
.
It's letting me know that for FaceTime and iMessage my carrier may charge me for that. That's fine, we will get to that a little bit as we set the phone up.
27
This is just a tutorial on how to get your SIM card installed on the iPhone 6
.
Now that you know how to install your SIM card on the iPhone 6, we can move forward and start taking care of the rest of the great features and functions of this phone. Thanks for using VisiHow and have a great day. If you have any comments or questions, let us know in the section below. Good bye.
