Insert German Characters in Microsoft Word 2010

Edited by Thor, Crystal, Eng

Hello and welcome to VisiHow. Today I'm going to show you how to add German accents to letters in Microsoft Word 2010 when using an English keyboard. Obviously accents are very important in language when spoken and equally as important when written. Using the Hotkey shortcuts will enable you to officially write in German.

Steps

  1. 1
The first letter we're going to try is "A"
    .
We're going to try to type an A with an umlaut. To do that, we're going to press Ctrl+Shift+:+A. Press all four of these keys simultaneously. As you can see, we now have an A with an umlaut on top.

It doesn't like to type the characters when the Caps Lock is on
    .
If you turn the Caps Lock on and then try to add an umlaut to a letter, so Ctrl+Shift+:+You, it does nothing.

The final character in the German alphabet that we do not have in English is the Ezsett
    .
It looks like a cross between a B and an S. I've spent a long time trying to figure out how this works. We're going to press Ctrl+Shift+7 simultaneously, then let go of them and press S very quickly. Make sure Caps Lock is off or it will not work.
