Hi, I am/was dating a girl that moved to Florida and I am in Kansas City. I went to Florida with her but came back to Kansas City and was going to go back down soon to visit her. Long story, short is there were somethings we were worried about her environment and she has stopped responding to my calls and texts. I am worried about her.

Long distance relationships fall apart in the blink of an eye, even in the strongest relationships. If you are worried about her and she is not responding to your calls and text messages then contact any of her friends via social media or SMS if you have their numbers. Depending on how worried you are, it may be time to get down to Florida for the weekend to check up on her and the status of your relationship.

If she is backing off because the long distance relationship is too hard, then have a serious conversation with her about both of you residing near each other or with each other. Set a goal date for about 6 months from your conversation and ask that she work with you on relocating so that you can be together. Let her know that you do not want to lose her but keep in mind that she may be hesitant still. You need to convey security with the relationship for it to survive even a short term long distance disruption.

Consider if drugs or alcohol addiction is a possibility. This is why you should go in person to judge the environment. Sometimes people can fall in with the "wrong" crowd to not feel lonely in a new location which leads to drugs or other less than savory behavior. People who are relocating alone are also a target for scams such as befriending and taking everything they can from this person. Keep all of this in mind but be careful on how you approach her with any accusations. If she feels stuck or being controlled then she will shut down and push you even further away. Sometimes the best approach to dealing with these situations is involving a trusted family member of hers. Have them make the accusations and then you act like you support her and can't believe what the family member is saying. This way you all will have someone in your girlfriend's inner circle. Basically, it is playing Good Cop, Bad Cop.
