How do I address the letter if I do not know who the judge is yet?
My brother asked me to take care of a fix-it ticket his wife received while driving an old truck registered to me. The ticket was for a missing front license plate. I forgot to go to the DMV to get a new set of plates and the due date came and passed. Now there is a bench warrant out for her and the penalty cost has gone from $190 to $490. Yesterday I got the new plates and then went to Traffic Court to pay the ticket and they wouldn't except my brothers credit card since my name was not on it in addition, I wasn't the person the ticket was issued to. The clerk told me I should give it a try. . . After my husband passed away 5 years ago, his truck, a 1997 Ford F150, was transferred to my name. It wasn't in great condition then but I let my brother use it as he has helped me and my four kids. He pays the insurance and keeps it at his place. Things are not really good between his wife and himself, that is why he asked me to take care of it, and he works full days and would have to take time off to deal with it.. . So the vehicle is in my name, my brother's wife received a fix-it ticket for a missing front license plate and my poor brother is the one making the payment for the violation.. . My late husband purchased the truck new and there never was a front license plate on the truck. In fact there was no provision on the bumper or the front of the vehicle to put a front plate on it. I thought I would let the judge know this in addition to my failure to help my brother out in a timely fashion. I forgot but it's my fault, I except the responsibility, however the fees for this seem rather absurd. It was just a front plate. Everything else was in order. Since money is very tight for us I thought I could send in a letter to the judge explaining the situation and possibly getting a reduction in the fine. There is no judge assigned to the case that I see on any of the paperwork. I don't see where it covers an unknown judge in the case. I have tried: I'm just now trying to write the letter. I don't know how to address him or her. Dear Judge? Dear The Honorable Superior Court Judge of Fresno County? I think it was caused by: There is NO judge on the paperwork assigned to the case.
