Why am I clearing throat so much after a cold that was 2.5 weeks ago?
I had a bad cold 2.5 weeks ago and still cough a bit. I'm constantly clearing my throat if I try to sing high notes. Even if I'm not singing I do tend to clear my throat. During the last of the cold I would cough so hard that a searing pain would enter my throat. It faded within days. My voice is everything to me and I'm worried.
The best way is to avoid singing in full voice while the vocal cords are inflexible or recovering from a cold. Take your time and recover fully. Take vitamin C and zinc every morning. Practicing talking in high and low vocals (not singing) during the day when you still have the effects of the cold. Coughing can last a long time, and 2.5 weeks of that is not unusual for a cold; however, it may require medical assessment to rule out bronchitis, pneumonia, allergy, or asthma if you wish to feel very safe. Take Mucinex (Guaifenesin) as prescribed by the doctor along with a lot of water.
Always wear a scarf if it is not hot in your area.
When you feel that you have recovered, start drinking herbal tea 4 hours prior to practicing. 2 hours before singing sessions, drink warm water. Warm-up by singing much longer for the first times.

There is no definite advice on that. It is quite popular that singers take Tylenol over Advil, but that means little if we take short terms in account. For long-term solutions, always consult your doctor!

What are the factors that may harm vocal folds?
Beneficial factors:

- a lot of rest;
- a balanced diet (no caffeine, no alcohol, no fast carbohydrates);
- purity of air (no second-hand smoking is allowed).
Harmful factors:

- some food that is listed in the article.
Our choir director told us to take two tablespoons of mustard for vocal cord hoarseness and stamina. Is that true. If so, how does mustard enhance vocal ability.etc. any good for me to use?
I used to be a really great singer. But through the years of singing and not taking care of my vocals I'm always having trouble with hoarseness, mucus and postnasal drip drainage, as well as not being able to sing or hit high range notes. Its a strain on my vocals and I suffer severely with these types of problems and more. No matter what I do, my voice will not restore its natural ability to sing. I'm embarrassed and don't feel confident any more when I get up before an audience to sing because I sound really horrible. I love to sing and now I'm so sorry I can't because of vocal abuse and not doing things to correct it which I didn't know to. Can you please tell me what can I do if there is a chance I can recover from all these problems that plague my voice? Also, are the throat sprays like Vocal Eze, Clear Voice, etc. any good for me to use.

Is it supposed to be thick or light?
When you put in all the ingredients, is the drink supposed to be thick
Drink are generally well-diluted. There is only one tablespoon of honey per cup of warm water. Licorice root tea is thin. 1/4th of juice (grape, pineapple, apple) with 3/4th of warm water is fine. So, it should be light (or thin).
Am I breathing / support wrong?
Whenever I try to consciously support my breathing by using "belly breathing" or pushing out my stomach as I have been told, I feel that I am straining to sing more than if I don't. Am I doing something wrong? I know that when you sing you are not supposed to feel any irritation or discomfort in the throat. I also heard that people say that when you sing you are supposed to have a firm stomach or core for support. I just think that I am not supporting my voice the proper way. Thank you for any help or advise.. I have tried: I have tried to sing at a lower/ softer level to make sure that I don't cause any vocal cord irritation. This also helps me with controlling the amount of air I expel when I sing.. I think it was caused by: I think a lot of the problems I have with singing is mental. I have many things on my mind or going through my head when I sing which can make it more difficult or something of a chore. I want to mentally understand and know my voice and for it be fun.
