HP laptop shut down and not switches on.How to know where lies the problem?(the power supply or the motherboard)?

I was watching a movie.I didn't check whether it was charging or not.still it was plugged in. Suddenly the screen goes off. I tried check whether the charging cable was faulty and tried it with one of my friend's.It was perfectly working, but my laptop was not charging .also there was no orange light (charging).then I tried for the static charge removal procedure, but didn't help. . One more thing , previously my laptop had the "fan not working " problem .But at the time of shutting down , there were not much heating on the base of the laptop and near the hot air vent. Previously I had laptop sudden shut downs ,but those restarted after few minutes. This time it is not working .I am not able to switch it on. I have tried: 1. tried with different chargers.2.applied the static charge removal procedure.3. tried to run it without battery(direct connection).4.opened up the inner parts to check if there is some burning or not.5.Internal drive is working(recovered some important data). I think it was caused by: 1.may be something related to "fan not working"(but it's winter in India).
