How to get the Samsung Galaxy S4 to read back a text message after speaking it.
- 1To have text messages read aloud to you, here are the five easy steps to follow:
- Scroll down by swiping your finger on the home screen's drop-down menu, and tap "Driving Mode". Make sure that the Driving Mode icon turns green.
- If you have your Galaxy S4 connected to Bluetooth, you will have the Samsung S-Voice enabled automatically.
- In the "Driving Mode" app you will readily hear calls coming in, text messages, set alarms, schedule announcements, how many emails you have accrued, as well as other useful information at your fingertips. Just tap these selections to enable them.
- S Voice will tell you who is calling or texting you, and to hear either, you merely command "Read Out" to listen to any message. On the Galaxy S4 it will still work if you command "Reply" or "Read".
- If you want to use your voice for texting, finding a place, getting a weather report, playing music, or making a call, note that you must double tap the home button. You then simply give a one-word command for any of these.
- 2Now, in case you want to block any annoying callers, all you have to do is:
- From your homepage, go to "Settings".
- Touch "My Device".
- Tap "Blocking Mode".
- From the "Blocking Mode" you will see a menu of many options, including notifications, calls coming in, alarms and time, LED indicator, contact list, and more. Just tap to block any of them.
- 3Disabling the S Voice Caller ID
- If "Driving Mode" is on, you can turn it off so that it will no longer read out loud text messages and calls coming to you.
- Swipe with two fingers at the top of your home screen, and bring down the "Notification Window".
- Drag your finger to the right to switch the "Driving Mode" off.
You now can safely drive your car without the distractions of trying to reply to an incoming call or text message. Manually using cell phones while driving has caused many accidents worldwide, so the "Driving Mode" feature can be extremely beneficial. You can also get the Samsung Galaxy S4 to read back a text message aloud while you are running or walking. You can always turn off the S-Voice, and block calls using the steps shown above.
Tips Tricks & Warnings
- When you slide down the "Notification Window" with two fingers, it will display all Galaxy S4 advanced feature options. It also ensures that then you can pull down the menu without it lagging.
- Note - you must double tap the "Home" button to launch using your voice for texting, and other uses above from S-Voice. (See step 5 of having text messages read aloud above.)
Questions and Answers
How to Stop S4 from Reading Chrome Results out Loud?
When I do a Google Chrome search, the results usually are read out loud to me via a female-sounding voice. I would like to turn this off, if possible, whenever I am in the presence of other people; so that they don't know my business or so that I don't annoy another people. Thanks!

Since both smartphones have the ability to send voice texts, have texts read to you, and download and listen to podcasts, the question isn't necessarily about functions in your case, but perhaps more about compatibility with other devices you may want to synchronize and use the smartphone with.
Do you prefer using the Apple environment? Do you have other Apple devices such as Macbook, iPad? Apple TV, etc.? Or do you have more running via your Google account? Do you use Google Play or iTunes more? Do you have a Chromebook?
In your particular case, the mentioned considerations would be what I would recommend looking into, especially if you are simply considering smartphone replacement and not your other devices you currently have in your possession.
If you decide to keep your iPhone, I recommend getting to know Siri better and reading up on the many functions available just by using it.

Text to speech on my AT&T Galaxy Note4 does not activate, my old HTC Windows phone worked great
AT&T phones are known to have this problem. If you install [1] , [2], or any other similar applications, you will be able to scan your Note4 for the Driving Mode application and put the shortcut into your application drawer.
There is also a driving mode application from AT&T themselves: [3].
If nothing suits you, you can try an alternative driving application [4].
Is this for real? This is free?
Is this for real? This is freedom?. I have tried: S-voice defaults to voice prompt off. I can't figure out how to have it default to on. My last S4 defaulted to on.
