As their name implies, acne scars are the result of severe acne. Severe acne can leave pits and angled or wavy scars on your face.

Medical Treatments

There are a number of medical treatments to take care of these types of scars depending on the severity of the scars.

Topical Ointments

Some over-the-counter and prescription scar gels, ointments, and creams will also treat scars and pits caused by acne.

Chemical Peel

If your acne scars aren't very severe, you could ask your doctor about a chemical peel, which can quickly improve the appearance of your acne scars.

Material Injections

If your acne scars are just a bunch of pits, your doctor may just inject material under the pits on your face to make the skin smoother.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a process through which a spinning diamond tool removes the top layer of your face's skin. The healing process can take anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks, but once its healed, the new top layer will be smooth.

Fractional Laser Therapy

This process uses a laser to bypass the top layer of your skin and smooth your deeper skin. Fractional laser therapy patients will only need a few days to heal, since the top layer of skin is left untouched. You may look a bit sunburned while you heal, though.
