Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video we are going to show you how to format the SD card on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on top of the phone
.
2
Once the phone has been activated, we'll see the lock screen
.
3
To unlock the phone, press down on the screen, hold down until two padlock icons appear, then swipe up
.
4
Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the Home screen
.
At the bottom we will see a row of icons. What we want to do is find the Settings menu. To do that we can swipe down the Notification panel.
5
Press down at the top of the screen, hold down, and swipe down
.
6
Now that the Notification panel has appeared, we are looking for this icon
.
In the top right-hand corner of the screen we can see there is a white cog icon. This is our Settings icon.
7
Press down on it and it will open up our Settings menu
.
We can see the word "Settings" at the top left-hand corner.
8
We want to be in this section that says "PHONE" in this grey bar.
9
Scroll down until we get to this area
.
You can see it says the word "Storage" and next to it has the icon of a USB card.
10
Press down in the word "Storage" and it will allow us to enter this menu
.
11
Let's scroll down to the second section
.
There are two sections in this menu. There is the "PHONE STORAGE" section at the top.
12
If we scroll down there is the "SD card" section
.
This is the section that we want to be in.
13
We want to be in this option here called "Format SD card." What formatting the SD card does is erases everything on the SD card
.
It puts everything back together. It makes it suitable to start again. That means that if it's defragmented, if it's messy, it clears everything. It's like cleaning the house. It clears everything out and allows a fresh start so we can begin again.
14
We want to do this and we don't want to delete everything individually, which can be quite frustrating and time consuming
.
Then press down on this option, 'Format SD card.'
15
Press down on it and it's going to give us this warning
.
"Erase the SD card? You will lose all data on the card!" So be aware that we will lose everything. We can't reclaim it. Once it's gone, it is gone.
16
If that's what we want to do, press down in this grey bar
.
On the bottom of the screen it says the words, "ERASE SD card." Press down on it.
17
It will ask us one more time if we are really sure about this
.
Before we press that big red button, in that sense. It says, "Erase the SD card, deleting all files stored there? You can't reverse this action!," with a nice exclamation mark.
18
We do want to delete everything
.
We're megalomaniacs. We are going to press this icon on the bottom of the screen. In this grey bar it say, "ERASE EVERYTHING."
19
Press down on it. It's going to format the card.
20
It's going to erase everything
.
The SD card is going to be demounted as well but that's not what we are trying to do. That's a separate option. We are going to delete it.
21
As we can see, it says the "SD card is currently being checked."
22
Next is, "Preparing SD card."
23
It has deleted everything
.
24
If we go back we can actually look in the SD card
.
We can do that by pressing down on this icon where it says "Make more space."
25
We can see that previously there were some photos here that have been deleted. Now there's just one miscellaneous item.
26
If we go back we can see that it has successfully formatted our SD card
.
27
This then concludes our tutorial on how to format an SD card on an HTC One M8
.
