Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to find and edit which applications have access to your notifications on an HTC One M8.
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on top of the phone. Once the phone has been activated, we will see the lock screen.
To unlock the phone, press down on the screen and hold down until the two padlock icons appear at the bottom. Then swipe up.
Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen, and at the bottom we will see several icons. Now, what we need to do is find the Settings menu. To do this we can swipe down the Notification panel.
Press down at the top of the screen, hold down, and swipe down.
Now, we can see that the Notification panel has appeared.
We are looking for the icon at the top right-hand corner of the Notification Panel screen. It is a white cog icon, and this is our Settings icon.
Pressing down on this icon will open our "Settings" menu. The word "Settings" can be seen in the top left-hand corner.
Now, let's scroll down to the last section, which is the "PHONE" section. The word "PHONE" is shown on the left-hand side of the screen in a gray bar.
In this section, we need the "Sound & notification" option. We can see the words "Sound & notification", and next to these words there is an icon of a speaker with emanating from it.
Press down on that icon or on those words, and it's going to open our "Sound & notification" menu.
Scroll down to the bottom where we'll find the "NOTIFICATION" section. It will say the word "NOTIFICATION" in a gray bar. Now, we want to demonstrate how to find and edit which apps have access to our notifications.
We can find that option right at the bottom, where it says "Notification access". Below that, it tells us how many applications can read our notifications currently, and it states that "2 apps can read notifications".
Press down on this option, and it's going to bring up the list of the applications that can view and have access to our notifications.
For this demonstration, there are two apps with access to our notifications. One is "HTC Dot View Music", and the other is "HTC Dot View Notifications". They are both activated, as we can see by a white checkmark inside the green box across from each application. The white checkmark inside the green box means that application is activated. These are obviously very essential applications for the HTC One M8, and that is why they are both activated. Turning them off may disrupt the phone, and that is why they are both turned on. You may see a bigger list, depending on the applications you have downloaded. We can actually view, edit, and control which applications does have access to the notifications. Make the choices right for you and what you're comfortable with.
Edit the application choices by pressing down on a checkbox on the right side of the screen. If the box was green with a check inside, tapping on the box will then remove the check. This will deactivate that option.
Press down on an empty box, and a message will appear on the screen. This will warn us by saying, "HTC Dot View Music Control will be able to read all notifications posted by the system or any installed app, which may include personal information such as contact names and the test of messages sent to you. It will also be able to dismiss these notifications or touch action buttons within them." It is quite invasive, and there are a lot of things it can do. It can read our messages, and we have to decide if that is something we are happy with.
If we are satisfied with this option, we can activate it by pressing "OK" at the bottom right. This will put the white checkmark back into the green box. Now, this option has been activated again.
This concludes our tutorial on how to find and edit which applications have access to your notifications on an HTC One M8.
