You're watching VisiHow, and today we are going to show you how to find a family member's location using the Find my iPhone app.
Steps
1
To start with, give a single press to the home button at the bottom of the phone
.
2
Alternatively, press the lock screen button on the side of the phone
.
3
Swipe across the screen and enter a passcode if you have one set up
.
4
You can also use the fingerprint scanner by holding your finger over the home button
.
5
The first thing to do is make sure that your phone and your family member's phone are both set up and able to connect to one another with the Find my iPhone app
.
To do that, go to Settings by tapping on the gray gear icon.
6
In Settings scroll down to "iCloud" and tap on that
.
7
On the iCloud screen, scroll to the bottom and tap on "Find My iPhone"
.
8
The green switch at the top means the app is set up and working
.
9
There is also an option to "Send Last Location", which automatically sends the location to Apple when the battery is critically low
.
This option isn't usually very helpful.
10
Tap on "iCloud" at the top left corner to go back
.
11
Now, tap on "Share My Location" at the very bottom of the iCloud screen
.
12
The green switch at the top indicates that "Share My Location" is turned on "From" "This Device"
.
13
Tap at the top left corner to return to iCloud
.
14
Scroll up to the top and tap on "Settings" at the top left corner to return to Settings
.
Repeat these steps for your family member's iPhone as well.
15
Press the home button twice
.
16
Now, swipe up any apps or screens that are open to close them
.
17
When everything is all set up on both phones, press the Find My iPhone icon
.
You may need to sign in if you have not done this before.
18
The map will show any family members' iPhones that are currently connected to yours along with where those phones are currently located
.
19
This screen also shows the type of phone each person uses
.
20
You can zoom in and out on the map if desired
.
21
A message at the very bottom of the screen tells how many connected devices are online
.
22
To get more information, tap the letter "I" in a circle at the bottom right corner of the screen
.
23
Press on "Hybrid" in the middle to show an overlay of the town
.
24
Go back and press "Satellite" to bring up a direct satellite map
.
25
Tap "All" at the top left corner of the screen to go back
.
26
As your friends or family members move around, you will see their locations continue to update
.
27
For more information on a particular device, tap that device individually
.
28
Tap on "Actions" at the bottom of the screen to bring up more options
.
29
The first option on the left is to "Put Sound"
.
30
The middle option is "Lost Mode"
31
The option on the right is "Erase iPhone"
.
These options will be further discussed in another tutorial.
32
Tapping on the car at the far left hand corner will provide a map with directions to that person's location
.
33
Tap the various options at the top of the screen to get directions by car, walking, or using a particular map application
.
34
Another feature of this application is the ability to see how much battery power is left on each iPhone you are connected to
.
35
To refresh the information, tap the refresh icon at the top right corner of the screen
.
36
This concludes our tutorial on how to find a family member or friend's location when using the Find My iPhone application and family sharing on an iPhone 6
.
