Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to filter your Twitter timeline to only show mention notifications on an HTC One M8.

Steps

To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone

Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.

To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up

Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We now need to open the application folder.

We can do that by tapping the icon in the middle, at the bottom of the screen

There is a grid of white dots. This is the icon for the applications folder.

Now that the folder has been opened, we need to find and tap the Twitter application
.
There is a Twitter icon, which is a blue background with a white bird on tap, and underneath it says the word "Twitter". Your application may be in a different location, so look for the icon in your folder. When we open up the application, we will see our timeline. Our timeline is very chaotic. It's full of tweets that have been shown to us based on what Twitter thinks we might want to see, but we haven't really chosen these, and at times it can feel like we're bombarded with tweets from advertisements and random sources. What we can do then, is filter the timeline. To do that, we need to open the settings menu.

To do that, tap on the 3 vertical dots in the top right-hand corner of the screen

We want the option at the bottom, "Settings"

Tap on the second option, which is the registered username for this application

In this case, it says "visihowl".

Tap on the option second from the top labeled "Notifications tab"
.
The name is a bit misleading because it implies notifications as it updates, but what it means, is the notifications to the timeline. Once opened, it will say "Timeline filters" at the top.

The first option is "Mentions only"
.
Underneath it says "Show only mention notifications". This means that it will only show notifications that mention people we're following or people that are following us. It will limit the content on the timeline to those that are connected to the people we follow or the people following us. This option is currently deactivated, indicated by the empty box.

To turn this option on, we can press down on the box until it is blue with a white check mark inside

Now we will only receive notifications if they mention someone we know.

However, if we want to see notifications from everyone, we can press down on the box until it's empty

That indicates that the option is deactivated.
