Enable or Disable SIM Security with PIN on a Microsoft Lumia 535
Edited by Thor, Colette Cole, Dougie, Eng and 2 others
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we're going to show you how to turn SIM, which is the Subscriber Identification Module, security with PIN protection on or off when using a Microsoft Lumia 535.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button, located on the right-hand side of the phone
.
2
As you can see, if I swipe the lock screen up, I can enter the phone without any need to enter a PIN, which is a personal identification number
.
3
I can just turn it on and enter it freely
.
4
If you want to add some SIM security, you can put PIN protection on, which means you will have to enter your PIN every time you want to enter your phone
.
If that's what you want to do, then this is the perfect tutorial for you. We are going to show you how to do it. First we need to swipe down to the notification panel.
5
The next thing we will do is press the "all settings" option located at the top right-hand corner of the screen under the top green tiles
.
The screen can sometimes be a little delicate.
6
We've now entered the settings menu
.
7
We are going to need to swipe to the left into the applications menu
.
8
Here we have the phone option
.
Press on that option.
9
As you can see, we are now in the phone settings
.
10
We want to swipe down and until we get to "SIM 1 settings"
.
11
If you have dual SIM activated you'll have to put a PIN in for each different SIM card
.
I only have 1 SIM card in this phone, so we are just going to press the only one that is available.
12
Here you can see we have a selection of options
.
13
The middle one, which is the second from the bottom, is SIM security
.
We are going to turn that one on.
14
When you turn that on, it will bring up this screen, which is the screen to enter the SIM PIN
.
15
You're going to need to enter your SIM PIN
.
It should be on the card that your SIM came with, so you'll need to keep that information. Hopefully, you'll have that with you. If you don't have that with you, go and get it and then you'll be able to enter it. My PIN is 1-8-1-2, so I will enter that.
16
Then I will press "enter"
.
17
As you can see, the PIN was accepted and SIM security has now been turned on
.
18
What I'm going to do is turn the phone off so that you can see that it's worked
.
19
This is going to take a few moments while the phone logs off and shuts down
.
20
There is also the option for you to change your PIN if you want to make it something more easily remembered
.
We can show you how to do this in another tutorial. So search for that and check that one out as well.
21
Now that the phone is turned off we are going to turn it back on again by holding the power button
.
Wait until you feel the vibration which means the phone is rebooting.
22
It's turned itself back on, as can be seen by the Microsoft logo
.
23
I am going to have to enter my PIN code
.
It will be the same PIN code as I have used before, but every time that I want to enter the phone from now on, I will be asked to enter the PIN. It's a form of protection so, as you can see, it has appeared.
24
So I will enter my PIN, which is 1-8-1-2 as I have entered before
.
25
Now you can see that every time you want to turn the phone on or off, or even when the phone logs out when it has automatically timed out, to enter your PIN again
.
26
If however, you no longer want to do this, because it can take a lot of time, and it can be quite irritating if you have to keep entering the same PIN every time your phone automatically times out, you would go back to the "all settings" menu
.
27
Swipe the notification screen down
.
28
Now we're in the settings we'll swipe across to the left back to the applications again
.
29
We will then press "phone" again
.
30
We're going to scroll down and go back to "SIM 1 settings"
.
31
Now you see we have the option to turn off SIM security
.
Turn it off.
32
You will be asked to enter your PIN again
.
33
You will see that it says "SIM PIN disabled"
.
34
Now there's no problem to turn the phone on or off as I can do here by pressing the power button to restart it
.
35
I can now enter the phone easily without having to enter the PIN
.
36
Then concludes our tutorial on how to turn SIM security with PIN protection on or off when using a Microsoft Lumia 535
.
