Edited by Djinu, VisiHow, VC, Eng
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we're going to demonstrate how to enable Google Now on tab in a country where it is normally not available.
Steps
1
The first step will be to remove the SIM card from the phone
.
I am going to take a hair pin and press on the left side of the phone.
2
Open up the SIM card tray and remove the SIM card
.
3
Reinsert the card tray with no SIM card
.
The second step is going to be a factory data reset of the phone.
4
Swipe down from the top with two fingers
.
5
Then, tap the gear-shaped icon
.
6
Now, scroll down until you see "Backup & reset"
.
7
8
Tap on "Factory data reset"
.
9
Then, tap on "RESET PHONE"
.
10
11
And then I will tap on "ERASE EVERYTHING."
12
Once the phone reboots, I'm going to skip all of the setup options that I can
.
13
So I won't insert the SIM card
.
14
I will not choose a WiFi network
.
15
I won't set up the date and time, neither will I insert the name
.
16
I will click on "NEXT" and skip as much as I can
.
17
I'll choose a pattern screen lock
.
18
Now I am going to take two fingers and swipe from the top
.
19
I want to make sure that location is disabled
.
20
I'll click on the gear shaped icon
.
21
22
Then I will press "More."
23
And then I will choose "VPN."
24
I will click on the "+" icon to add in the VPN
.
25
26
You should have a VPN account set up prior to doing this.
27
The first step will be to turn on the WiFi
.
So click there to switch on your WiFi.
28
The second step will be to connect your VPN
.
29
I save my username and password there
.
Once VPN is connected, I see a key icon in the status bar on the top. So I know that it is active.
30
Now I can set up my Google Now
.
I'll just tap on Google.
31
32
I'll put my e-mail now and password
.
33
I will continue signing into my Google account
.
34
I use two step verification on my Google account
.
But you don't have to use that. If you do use it, you want to remember that you still want to keep the SIM card out, so set up another phone number on your account to receive the two step verification message code.
35
I'll then "ACCEPT" the terms of service
.
36
I'll set up Google Now and choose "YES, I'M IN."
37
Now to enable Google Now, I'm going to go to Google
.
38
In the Settings bar on the top left I'm going to tap three lines
.
39
Then I will press "Settings."
40
Now I will tap "Now cards."
41
And I will turn on "Now on Tap."
42
I am going to turn this on
.
43
I'm going to go back to the home screen
.
I will try "VisiHow."
44
So if I am on an article and if I wanted to get more information on it, I can always hold the circle button in the center of the screen to enable Google Now on Tap
.
45
It will look at the webpage and show me some relevant search results
.
46
This was an article on T4i
.
It shows me some search results on the Canon EOS 650D, which is what the T4i is known internationally as.
47
It also shows me the Canon web site
.
I can click on this and find shopping information for the camera that I was just looking at on the VisiHow website.
