Edited by Thor, Crystal, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to edit the sync schedule for a Microsoft Outlook account when using an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone
.
Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.
2
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up
.
Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We now need to find the Settings menu. To do that, we need to swipe the notification panel down.
3
To do that, press your finger at the top of the screen and swipe downwards
.
This will open the notification panel.
4
We want to tap the white cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
This is our settings icon and it will open up the settings menu. It will say the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen when it is opened.
5
Now, tap on "Accounts & sync" in the "PERSONAL" section
.
The icon on the left-hand side is a small gray circle, surrounded by two arrows making another circle. In this setting, we will see all of the accounts that we currently have synced with the phone.
6
We want to tap on "Outlook.com"
.
It has the Outlook icon to the left of it.
7
Now, we want to tap on "General settings"
.
Underneath, it says, "Size limit, format and server".
8
We're looking for the "SYNC SCHEDULE" section
.
The sync schedule decides when the HTC One M8 will sync with the Microsoft Outlook account. That means when it will check for new emails and download them. We can set a schedule for how often they sync. What we can do, is decide when is "Peak time" and when is "Off-peak time". We can also decide what happens during those periods.
9
Tap on the first option, "Peak time sync" to change that setting
.
This is what's going to happen during peak time. Right now, "Smart Sync" is selected. This means that it lets the phone decide how often to sync based on the phones behavior.
10
To change that, we can tap on the selected setting
.
We can tap on "Push mail", "Manual", every 5, 10, or 15 minutes, and so on. We will tap on "Every 15 minutes".
11
Now we can see under "Peak time sync", it is currently set to "Every 15 minutes"
.
12
Now we can choose when the peak time is by tapping on "Peak time"
.
It's currently set to "Mon - Fri, 8 am - 8 pm". This is the peak time. This is normally our work time, but if we work weekends, nights, or different times, we may want to change this.
13
Here we can choose which days we want to be the peak time by tapping on "Days"
.
14
Tap on a day to enable or disable it
.
If there's a checkmark, it means it's selected. If there's no checkmark, it's not selected. Tap on "OK" to finish.
15
Tap on "Peak time start"
.
16
Now we can select the time by scrolling up or down
.
We will move it to 6:00 AM. Press "OK".
17
Tap on "Peak time end" to change that the same way
.
We will set it to 9:00 PM. Tap on "OK".
18
Now we need to go back by pressing the back arrow in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen
.
19
Now the final option is "Off-peak sync", press down on that
.
This is what the phone will do when it's off peak. It's currently set to "Smart Sync".
20
To change that, we can tap on the selected setting
.

This concludes the tutorial on how to edit the sync schedule for a Microsoft Outlook account when using an HTC One M8
