To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone

Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.

To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up

Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We now need to open the application folder.

We can do that by tapping the icon in the middle, at the bottom of the screen

There is a grid of white dots. This is the icon for the applications folder.

Now that the folder has been opened, we need to find and tap the Facebook application

There is a Facebook icon, which is a blue background with a white "f" inside, and underneath it says the word "Facebook". Your application may be in a different location, so look for the icon in your folder.

We now need to tap the menu icon in the top right-hand corner to find the account settings menu

Scroll up or down to find "Account Settings", and tap on it

There will be a gray circle with a white head and shoulders and gear inside. This will open up the account settings menu.

Tap on "Edit" in the "Notifications" section

Underneath it says, "Text notifications: On" and "Get text notifications: Anytime - Limited", in this example. This will allow us to edit what type of text message notifications we receive from Facebook.

Tap on an option to turn it off or on
.
The first option we have is "Get text notifications", so we can choose to receive notifications via text, or choose not to. Right now the blue check mark is visible, which indicates that we are receiving text message notifications from Facebook. We will press down on this section to turn it off.

We can turn it back on by tapping on it again

The blue check mark will reappear. We also have 3 options about what type of notifications we can receive via text message. We have "Comments on my status updates and timeline posts", "Friend requests" and "Everything else". These are all currently enabled, indicated by the blue check mark.

If we want to turn these off, we can press down on the chosen option

The check mark will disappear, which means the option is deactivated. Tap on it again to turn it on. The blue check mark will appear.
