    Open Adobe Illustrator by clicking its icon on the desktop or by clicking the start menu

    Find the Windows icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen and click it once to load recent programs. Illustrator might be on the list. Illustrator is indicated by a brown-and-orange icon with the letters "Ai".

    If Adobe Illustrator CS6 is not in your recently used programs, you can type "Adobe Illustrator" into the search bar at the bottom of the start menu

    Click "Adobe Illustrator CS6" to load it and go directly to the user interface

    Next, click "Edit" in the top-left corner of the window

    Then, click "Units..." in the expanded menu in order to load preference settings

    The selection depends on the nature of your work and what setting you find the easiest to operate.

    Click the "Stroke" and "Type" drop-down menus

    They have the same options. "Stroke" indicates the thickness of a line. "Type" refers to the font size. It is recommended leaving "Stroke" and "Type" settings on "Points", as points are more accurate than other units.
