Basically, you put some water in there.

Now you'll see I have two cups
    .
The first cup is full of water and the second cup is empty.

Now there's a purpose for this
    .
If you watch as I take the first cup and pour the water into the second cup you'll notice that I still have water left over.

Now the reason for this is we want a little water extra in this little Turkish pot
    .
So, we'll just put that in. There's one coffee cup full of water.

Now I'm not sure if you can see this but we're about an inch and a half down
    .
An inch and a half is roughly about 4 centimeters or so. We use the small burner and get some coffee.

When you get your coffee you are going to want to get fresh powdered ground coffee beans
    .
You can use whatever type your personal preference is. I like espresso. I'm just an espresso kind of guy. As you look at the coffee, when it's ground, it should be ground into powder. That is a powder-fine ground there.

What we are going to do is take one really big spoon and put that in there
    .
One really big spoon makes us a cup of coffee. I'm going to put a little extra in there, because I always do. Close the coffee back up, put it back in a plastic bag, because the last thing we want is for it to go stale. Which could ruin a whole bag of coffee. That is a tragedy.

    Turn our burner on
    .
Now there is a trick to this, the burner is going to go on high, I'm not sure if you can see that or not, but then over time you are going to turn your burner down as the coffee starts to cook more.

Here is our coffee in the cup down there and you can see the burner as well
    .
Just focus that a bit more. So one of the things we're going to do is to turn this down to a very small flame. In which case you don't actually have to watch it, it won't boil over all the way. Otherwise you have to sit and watch it, because if you don't the second that you look away, or that someone calls you on the phone or distracts you, your coffee is going to boil out go all over the stove and make a huge mess. Much of the coffee grounds are going to boil out with it causing you to lose that taste.

As you can see now we are starting to get some bubbles at the top of the coffee there
    .
I've got it on a high flame just so that it cooks faster. In a minute that will start to bubble up and we'll need to turn it down.

It's starting to bubble up and this is the part, I turned it down a little too far which is fine that's going to happen, but anyway you see it starting to bubble up there
    ?
You want to make sure it doesn't bubble over. If you have that flame low enough it's never going to bubble over. You don't even have to be here to watch it if you keep it that low. I like to put the coffee on then hop in the shower.

Anyway you don't want to boil it too long
    .
Boiling it too long breaks down the oils and the oils are a wonderful and tasty part of the coffee. So, it has boiled long enough let's turn that off.

Now we want to make sure that we are safe, so we're going to move this back away from the edge of the stove
    .
I could put it over here on one of the bigger burners.

Now, we're going to let that sit for about two or three minutes
    .
The reason for that is to let all that powder, the powder-fine coffee we showed you, to let all that sort of filter down to the bottom so that we can pour it into our glass and have a nice clean cup of coffee.

It's just a nice, slow, easy process.

You can see how clean and clear that coffee is coming out of there
    .
Well I shouldn't say clean and clear, but anyway. Now we've got our cup filled with this nice dark coffee.

There is still a little bit of water in here
    .
That's where our extra coffee grounds and dark stuff is.

    And there we have it
    .
That's an American modified Turkish coffee. You can add your sugar or anything else in to it that you like and enjoy it from there.
