Downloading WhatsApp from the Microsoft Store on your Lumia smartphone is easy if your phone is updated to the latest Windows 10 Mobile operating system. All you need is a connection to the Internet, access to the Microsoft Store, and, of course, a Microsoft Lumia phone. Just follow the steps below to download and install WhatsApp on your WM10-enabled Microsoft Lumia phone.
Download and Install WhatsApp from the Microsoft Store

Unlock your Microsoft Lumia by swiping up from the home screen
.
This should take you to the start screen.

On the start screen, you will see the Microsoft Store icon
.
When you locate the store icon, press it one time.
3
You will be taken to the Microsoft Store
.
On the Microsoft Store, tap on the search icon in the upper-right corner one time.
4
Once you have tapped the search icon, a search bar and keyboard will appear

.
This means that you do not need a separate installation process for the application. It should automatically install itself.
Set Up WhatsApp for WM10-enabled Lumia Phones
Now that you have downloaded and installed WhatsApp, it's time to get started with setting up WhatsApp on your WM10-enabled Microsoft Lumia. The setup process is relatively easy, and there are two ways to begin the setup. Read on for details.
1
If you are still on the download window, then simply tap the 'Open' button
.
Once you tap 'Open', WhatsApp will be launched.
2
If you are no longer on the WhatsApp installation window, you will need to swipe from right to left across the start screen
.
This will open the application menu.
3
You should now see WhatsApp at the very top of the applications menu, as this is the most recently downloaded application
.
When you see WhatsApp, press one time on the icon. If you do not see WhatsApp at the top, simply scroll down until you see WhatsApp and then tap on the icon for it.
4
Next, you will see the WhatsApp welcome window
.
Here, you need to read "WhatsApp Terms of Service and Privacy Policy by tapping on it. Then, tap on the arrow next to 'agree and continue' if you agree to the terms. This means that you will accept the terms and conditions for WhatsApp.
5
You will now see country, area code, and phone number fields
.
Enter your phone number and then tap once on the arrow key at the very bottom of the window.
6
After entering your phone number and tapping on the arrow, you will be taken to a new screen
.
On the screen, you will receive a message from WhatsApp, letting you know that the WhatsApp service will send an SMS message with a verification code. At this point, you may change your phone number by tapping 'Edit number'. Otherwise, if you do not need to edit your phone number, tap on 'Continue'. Tapping on 'Continue' will cause WhatsApp to send the SMS message.
7
You should now receive an SMS message, which will show as a pop-up in your notifications
.
The SMS message can take a few minutes to arrive; however, it usually only takes a few seconds.
- Note that there is also a countdown timer at the left side of the window. This timer lets you know when the WhatsApp service will call you with a code, in the event you did not receive an SMS message.
8
If you do not see a pop-up on your screen, you may swipe down from the top of your phone to see the WhatsApp code in your notifications.
9
When you see the WhatsApp message, simply tap on it one time.
10
You may then tap on the WhatsApp verification link or enter the code.
11
For our tutorial, the code will be entered
.
This is the most common method of verification. Therefore, we need to go back to WhatsApp. To do this, we simply tap once on the back arrow at the bottom of the WhatsApp message window. Note that you may need to tap more than once to go back more than one screen.
12
Once you have entered the WhatsApp code in your Lumia, WhatsApp will automatically take you to the next screen, where you will be asked to enter a name.
13
You will then have the option to take a photo or to choose a picture from your albums.
14
To take a photo, tap on 'Take a photo'.
15
This will open the front-facing 'selfie' camera, where we can take a photo of our lovely selves
.
To do this, tap on the camera button at the bottom of the screen.
16
Once the photo has been taken, we can drag it around in the grid until we're satisfied with the position
.
Once we have been satisfied, we tap on the checkbox at the bottom of our phone to approve the photo.
17
If you instead wish to use a photo from your album, then tap the 'Choose from album' button or simply tap once on the existing photo that you have just loaded.
18
After tapping 'Choose from album', you will need to select from one of the available photo options
.
In our case, we will use 'Camera Roll'. Tap once on 'Camera Roll'.
19
After tapping on 'Camera Roll', you will see our selection of photos
.
We are going to select to the heart photo with the two hands.
20
As before, slide or adjust the image behind the grid to make sure that you have it positioned the way you want
.
When you have finished, tap once on the checkbox.
21
If you're satisfied with everything, press the arrow at the bottom of your phone one time.
22
You will then receive a pop-up menu letting you know if you have contacts that are using WhatsApp
.
In our case, none of our current contacts are using the application. Therefore, we will simply tap on 'OK'.
23
You have successfully installed WhatsApp on your Microsoft Lumia. You may now begin to use it to make free calls and chat online.
