The Favorites Tray on your Samsung Galaxy S5 contains five icons that remain in place even if you move between Home screen panels. By default, the Favorites tray has five icons: Phone, Contacts, Messages, Internet and the Apps. All of these icons, but the Apps, can be rearranged, removed and replace with a different application icon.
Rearrange icons on the Favorites tab of Samsung Galaxy S5
Aside from the Apps icon, you can arrange any of the other four icons on your Favorites tab. To arrange the icons based on your preference, follow these procedures:
- 1Go to your Home screen by either pressing the Home button once or by tapping the Back key for a few times.
- 2For this example, touch and hold the message icon until the edit screen will appear.Favorites tab will be displayed on the lower part of your Home screen, touch and hold on the icon that you want to move to a different location.
- 3For this example, drag the Message icon to the first icon's (Phone) place.On the edit screen, continue holding the selected icon and move to the desired location on the Favorites tab.
- 4You will notice that as you move the Message icon on the first icon's location, the other icons (Phone and Contacts) will move to give way for the proposed arrangement.
- 5Release the icon, in this case the Message icon, to put it in place.
- 6You have successfully rearranged the icons on your Favorites tab.
Remove a shortcut icon from the Favorites tab on Samsung Galaxy S5
You can remove any of the other four icons on your Favorites tab except for the Apps icon. To do that, follow these procedures:
- 1Go to your Home screen by either pressing the Home button once or by tapping the Back key for a few times.
- 2For this example, touch and hold the message icon until the edit screen will appear.Favorites tab will be displayed on the lower part of your Home screen, touch and hold on the icon that you want to move to a different location.
- 3While on the Edit screen, continue holding the selected icon (Messages) and drag it into the Remove icon (trash bin icon) located on the upper-right part of the phone's screen.
- 4Once the icon is positioned on the trash bin icon, release the Messaging icon to remove it from the Favorites bar.
- 5You have successfully learned how to remove an icon from the Favorites tab.The icon will now be removed from the Favorites tab.
- Note: Removing an application icon from the Favorites tab will not uninstall the application. You can still have an access to the removed application by going to the Application list.
Add a shortcut icon on the Favorites tab on Samsung Galaxy S5
You can add an application shortcut icon on the Favorites tab so you can easily access the said application on your Home screen. To add an icon to the Favorites tab, follow these procedures:
- 1Go to your Home screen by either pressing the Home button once or by tapping the Back key for a few times.
- If the number of icons on your Favorites tab is less than five, then the selected application icon will insert itself into the selected location.
- If the number of icons on your Favorites tab is five, then the application icon will replace the current application icon from the selected location.

Actually, it's not the favorites tray, it's the home screen on my S5?
I wonder how to place individual people on my home screen so I can contact them with less clicks. I have tried: I moved something off of my home screen to make room. But, now their photos have disappeared.
If you have trouble with changing photographs for contacts, then follow the procedure for Android devices described in our tutorial on how to add photos for contacts. While the tutorial is for another phone, it works the same way for Galaxy S5.
Now, if you want to add a contact to your home screen, then follow the instructions below.
- 1Press the home button.
- 2You may need to tap on the "Contacts" tab after that.Tap on the Contacts application.
- 3Tap on the required contact.
- 4This will open up additional options.Press the triple-dot icon in the upper-right corner.
- 5This will add a contact with his or her photograph to the home screen of your S5.Tap on "Add shortcut to home screen".
There is another method of doing the same.
- 1Tap on a blank area on one of the home screens.
- 2Tap on "Widgets".
- 3Find and drag "Contact 1x1" to the free space on the home screen.
