Edited by Thor, Crystal, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to customize the topics in the 'Read now' section of the Play Newsstand application on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone
.
Once the phone has been activated we will see the lock screen.
2
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen up
.
Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen, and at the bottom we will see 5 icons. We now need to open the application folder.
3
We can do that by tapping the icon in the middle, at the bottom of the screen
.
There is a grid of white dots. This is the icon for the applications folder.
4
Now that the folder has been opened, we need to find and tap the Play Newsstand application
.
There is an icon of a blue piece of paper and underneath are the words "Play Newsstand". Your application may be in a different location, so look for the icon in your folder. Once the app opens, we need to go to the "Read now" section so we can show how the different topics are arranged.
5
Tap the menu icon in the top left-hand corner to open the menu
.
There are 3 horizontal lines.
6
This will show all of the different topics.
7
We can scroll right or left to view the different topics at the top
.
We are currently in "BUSINESS", indicated by the white text. Next to it is "ENTERTAINMENT" and "NEWS". We can edit and customize all of these. We can remove any of these categories or rearrange them into a different order.
8
To do that, we need to tap the menu icon in the top left-hand corner again to open the menu
.
9
10
Press down on "TOPICS" at the top, beside "NEWS"
.
11
It will say "Topics, add or remove topic cards to determine what tabs are displayed in Read now
.
Touch and hold cards to reorder the tabs".
12
We are going to swap the "Business" card for the "Entertainment" card by pressing and holding down on the "Business" card
.
13
Drag it to the preferred position and let it go
.
Now we can see that those two cards have switched positions. Another thing we can do is remove cards. We have two "News" cards, so we're going to remove one.
14
To do that, we're going to tap the 3 vertical dots in the bottom right-hand corner of the card
.
Every card has that icon. This will open up the menu.
15
We can "Download", "Move to top", "Share" or "Remove topic"; we want to tap on "Remove topic"
.
16
Now at the bottom it says, "Removed News" and we can undo it if we want
.
17
If we want to add more topic cards, we can tap on the circle with the plus sign in it
.
Underneath it says, "MORE".
18
Tap on any category to select it
.
19
We can then scroll down to see and add the topics
.
Press down on the blue plus sign in a circle to add the topic to the Read now section.
20
It will then confirm, at the bottom, that the topic has been added
.
We can also tap on it to read it now. We can see that the circle is now blue with a white check mark indicating that it's added.
21
We can go back to the Read now section by tapping the back arrow in the top left-hand corner
.
22
Then tap the menu icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen
.
23
24
If we scroll all the way to the end, we can see the two topics that we added, "Food" and "Drink"
.
25
This concludes the tutorial on how customize the topics in the 'Read now' section of the Play Newsstand application on an HTC One M8
.
