    Open iMovie
    .
    You will notice three buttons across the top.

    Click "Media"
    .
    "Media" includes all of the assets that you have to work with when creating a video clip.

    Click the second button, "Projects"
    .
    "Projects" includes past projects as well as current projects on which you are working.

    Click the third button, "Theater"
    .
    "Theater" will allow you to playback projects rather than go into the workspace for your projects.

    To create a project, click the "Projects" button
    .
    Then, click the "+" icon in the top-left corner of the window. In the pop-up menu, you have the option to choose "Movie" or "Trailer". "Trailer" is a more structured way of creating films. You can use "Trailer" for shorter projects up to one minute in length. The project will include very defined shots that you can piece together according to the template you choose. "Movie" offers templates as well, but the templates are less structured. Let's look at the templates in both categories. There is another tutorial on how to customize these templates.

    For this tutorial, let's click "Movie"

    On the next screen, you can double-click a theme if you wish

    Let's choose "No Theme". Once you double-click "No Theme", a pop-up box will appear asking you to name the video clip.

    Name the video clip
    .
    For example, let's type "VisiHow demo" in the text box.

    Then, click "OK"
    .
    A project window will be opened for your film.

    You can drag and drop clips onto the timeline

    To do this, click a clip at the top half of the screen and drag it onto the project timeline.

    A "+" icon will appear in the lower-right corner of the thumbnail.
