    To begin, we should have Photoshop opened

    We can see that by the blue square at the bottom with the letters "PS".

    Once we have Photoshop opened, we can either create a new document or open an existing one

    Once we have a document opened, it should look similar to the image from the video

    At the left-hand side, we can see that the document is in its own tab at the top. If we open several documents, they will be listed along the bar at the top.

    We should automatically be in the "Layers" option in the bottom right-hand corner
    .
    There is only one layer in this video. It is called "Background". It is locked, as indicated at the right-hand side.

    What we should do then is click "Layer" at the top and at the left-hand side

    We will be given the option to name the layer

    It is recommended to name it, as when we end up with 50 layers, it might get a little confusing.

    We can click the "Color" drop-down menu to change the color of the layer
    .
    Generally, it is good to keep it at "None". If we need, we can specify a color as well.

    We can click the "Mode" drop-down menu
    .
    This will change the style of the layer. It is recommended to leave it at "Normal", because if we need to, we can change it after we have created the layer. There is another VisiHow video on the modes.

    Finally, we can click the "Opacity" drop-down menu

    For the layer, "100%" is the most opaque setting. It is recommended to leave it at that, as we can edit that later as well.

    Once we are satisfied with the selections, we click "OK"
