You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial we are going to show you how to create a Desktop shortcut for QuickTime on your Mac when using OS X Yosemite.
Steps
1
The first thing we need to do is open the Finder
.
Move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen, which will open up the dock. The Finder icon is a blue and white box with a smiley face on it.
2
Give a single click to the icon by using the trackpad or by clicking the mouse
.
Once we've done this, the Applications window should open.
3
Some Macs may be configured differently, and may be on the Desktop option, for example
.
If Applications does not pop-up, scroll up until we reach Applications.
4
Then click "Applications."
5
Once we are in Applications, we will find the QuickTime Player
.
It looks like a black "Q" with a blue inner circle.
6
In order to see how we will create the Desktop icon we are going to move the mouse pointer to the edge of the window
.
Notice that the mouse pointer changes into two arrows.
7
Now, press down on the mouse trackpad or the mouse button one time, hold, and drag the window to reduce the size of the window
.
When we have reached an area where there is plenty of space to see the Desktop, remove the finger and the window will remain that size.
8
Now, navigate down to the QuickTime icon
.
Single click and hold and drag the icon to the side.
9
Release the mouse or trackpad and this will leave the QuickTime Player icon on the Desktop
.
10
To move the QuickTime Player icon, single click on it and hold and move it to where ever we'd like it
.
11
When we are ready to close the Finder window, move the mouse pointer back over the Finder window
.
Click on the red circle with the black "X" on the top, left corner. This will remove the Finder window and let us see the entire Desktop.
12
Take two fingers and press on the icon and select "Move to Trash" to delete the Desktop shortcut
.
13
Alternatively, we can simply drag the icon down to the dock and leave it in the Trash
.
14
This concludes our tutorial on how to create a Desktop shortcut for QuickTime Player using Mac OS X Yosemite
