Not sure why, but there aren't many apps out there to control a Philips DVD player. There are a few that I found and they are listed below for both the Android and iPhone smartphones. Checking Amazon, there are a few alternatives you can buy and I have also included them.
Method 1: Philips MyRemote
This universal remote control for Android will control a number of different models of Philips DVD and Blu-ray players. Also has the ability to control Streamium, Home Theater Systems and Soundbars. You need Android version 2.3.3.
Method 2: Universal Remote Control Free
App creator Super IR N really made one powerhouse of an Android app. The Universal Remote Control Free will not only control your Philips DVD player but will control many other components in your house including Smart TV, Cable box, Air Conditioner, Blu-ray Player, Projector, Home cinema, Car Audio, Hi Fi, Game console and DSLR Camera. The compatible smartphones for this app are listed below:
- Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, S6
- Note3, 4, Mega
- LG G2 ( Android 5.0 or higher ), G3, G4, G5, V10, V20
- LG G Flex2
- Xiaomi Mi 4, 5
- Redmi Note2, 3
- Gionee Marathon M5
- Oppo Mirror 5
- Lenovo Vibe X3
- ZTE Grand X Max+
Method 3: Andoer Universal IR Appliances Wireless Infrared Remote
This is a hardware alternative that will give your Android smartphone the ability to send IR signals to older Philips DVD players that do not have the capability to connect to your WiFi network. Available on Amazon, you can pick this IR blaster for about $10. After you plug the attachment in the data port of your Android, all you have to do is download the recommended app from the Google Play store and you're good to go.
Method 4: Shinee IR Smart Remote 3.5mm Smart Control
Another offering in the Amazon hardware category, the Shinee plugs into your earphone jack and is designed for the full line of Apple products. This is compatible with: iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s plus, iPad, iPad mini and iPod. There is a recommended app that you have to download from the Apple Store called ZaZa Remote.
