Connect and Remove Charger from HTC One M8
Edited by Grimm, Alexander Avdeev
You are watching VisiHow! This tutorial will show you how to connect the charger to and remove it from the HTC One M8.
Make sure that a charger is available. In this case, this is the HTC charger from the United Kingdom. All charger models may vary and be, for example, American or European.
Take the bottom piece, which is located between the prongs, and slide it out as shown in the video. This will allow using the HTC charger and plugging it into the wall.
iPhone chargers can be used too. They will also function as chargers for the HTC phone. In this tutorial, there are American and European iPhone chargers.
Alternatively, a Samsung smartphone charger can be used. In this tutorial, there is a European Samsung charger. All of these chargers will work to charge the HTC One M8.
Use the factory HTC charger over other chargers if it is available.
Take the larger connector at the end of the USB cable. There are two ends of the USB cable. The larger connector is a standard USB connector. Everyone who has used USB devices is familiar with this.
Leave the other end out for now. The other end has a micro USB connector, and it is very small. If the size of both USB connectors are compared side by side, it is obvious how different they are. The next steps will demonstrate how to put the larger connector into the socket of all of these chargers.
Connect the charger to the USB cable using the Samsung charger. The USB connector only fits one way. Flip it over if it does not go into the socket of the charger.
To disconnect the charger, firmly hold the charger piece, not the cable, and pull it away. The USB cable and charger will come apart.
Connect the charger to the USB cable using the European iPhone charger. The connector is going in only one way. Turn it over if it does not fit. It should go in very easily. Slide it in.
To disconnect the charger, firmly hold the charger and cable and pull them apart.
Connect the charger to the USB cable using the American iPhone charger. The USB connector only fits one way. Flip it over if it does not go into the socket of the charger. The connector should slide in easily
Firmly hold both pieces, pull the USB charger and cable apart.
Last but not least, connect the charger to the USB cable using the HTC charger that comes with the phone. Slide in the USB connector. There is only one way to connect it to the charger.
If the USB connector does not go in, flip it over; and it should go in easily.
Notice that a part of the shiny area of the connector might be visible between the connector and the charger. Sometimes, the connectors do not go in all the way. Ironically, the USB connector in all of the other chargers went in completely. That is not a problem, as either having or not having a gap is the intended position.
Take the cable end with the micro USB connector.
Position the HTC One M8 so that the camera is on top and the HTC logotype is at the bottom.
Rotate the phone so that the bottom edge is visible. The micro USB You-shaped port will be visible. The bottom side of the port is a bit smaller than the top side.
In the phone, one side of the port is smaller than the other side, just like the sides of the case of the USB connector.
Align the connector relative to the phone port. The smaller sides should be both facing downwards if the screen of the phone is facing up.
Put the micro USB connector into the phone. Do not push too hard. If it is pushed hard, then the connector is turned upside-down. Once the micro USB connector is in the phone, it is possible to see a tiny shiny part of metal.
Firmly hold the cable and simply pull it out of the phone. Do not press hard on the phone.
To avoid any damage to the screen, it is possible to hold only the edges of the phone.
Put in the micro USB connector.
To avoid extra trouble, put the index finger on the top of the phone and hold it.
Pull the micro USB connector out.
Slide the micro USB connector in. Pulling the connector in and out might be difficult. It feels much harder than doing the same with iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S5, or Microsoft Lumia 535.
Pull the micro USB connector out now. A little pop can be heard as the cable is pulled out. That is how the charger for the HTC One M8 is connected and removed. The back cover of the phone does not come off, so there is no way to take the battery out of the HTC One M8. It is only possible to charge the phone by using the USB charger and cable with the micro USB end.
