    From the home screen, swipe down from the top with two fingers

    Now, scroll down until you reach "Security"

    Tap on Security once

    You will see "Automatically lock". The default value is set it to "5 seconds after sleep". After your screen turns off, the device will usually lock the phone within five seconds.

    Tap on an option

    You can change the time of the automatic lock to the period of time between "Immediately" and "30 minutes". Let's say that you would like to keep a relatively short time-out, let us say, "30 seconds", to save your battery life; but you don't want to be bothered with unlocking your phone after it has been on relatively recently. Then, you can set the value to 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or even 30 minutes.

    Tap on the "Power button instantly locks" toggle

    You can turn it off to quickly turn off your screen to save battery.

    Press the power button once more

    The phone will turn back on without requiring the lock pattern because your pressing the button will have been within 5 minutes of the screen turning off.
