Complete the DDO Starter Adventure

Hi, you are watching VisiHow. Today we are continuing our intro series for the online Dungeons & Dragons PC game. We are going to be going through our first quest.
Steps
- 1I am going to go ahead and move a few things around on the screen. I'm going to move the chat down and make it a bit larger so that we can see our chat a little bit better as we are playing the game. We are going to move our shortcut bar over toward the middle of the screen. Next, I am going to move our status meter up and out of the way and move the focus orb to the bottom corner opposite our chat box. The focus orb allows us to see the player's challenge rating (CR). For example, if we right-click on the woman we see she her picture, we see she is a CR 9 (which means level 9). If we right-click on our self, our picture will come up in the focus orb and we can see that we are CR 1 or level 1. So, she is significantly better off, but that is OK because we are the hero and she is not. You can toggle the quest log, and from it you can access the full list of objectives, bonuses, play through bonuses, monsters killed, traps disabled, secret doors, things you've smashed, whether you've come in and out, how many times you've died, etc. If you die, it is not that big of a deal, because you do not lose anything and you return to the point where you died. It is mostly just an inconvenience. So, let's go ahead and get started.Setup your user interface.
- 2Double-click on the woman to talk. We have to tell her what we are doing, so we are going to choose an option. More often than not, these options do not matter, but there are certain areas where they do. We can continue the quest dialogue, or if you are the kind of person who likes to get right into it, we will click 'that sounds good, lead the way'. So I am going to click that.Run up and talk to the woman.
- 3Here we get a new objective, which is to climb the ladder. We also have our tool tips, which pop up here, to tell us what we have to do. As you start playing the game you will get these tool tips and you can click 'x' to close them if you do not like them.Go into the cave.
- 4You actually do not need to do anything to climb on a ladder; you just walk up to it and hop onto it. Another thing you can do is press 'T'. This will allow you to move your head with the mouse like you would if you were using your own head. At any rate, let us run up the ladder.Climb the ladder.
- 5I'm using the right mouse button to see where I am going. Then I am going to use the space bar to jump up the rock ledges. You can also look around and see things if you want to.Follow the glowing runes.
- 6Run toward the wall and fall down. Continue to follow the glowing runes.Fall down the crevasse.
- 7The left mouse button allows you to swing. As you inflict or take damage, you can see the numbers over the character.Fight the monster.
- 8We are going to double-click on the lever. You can see that the mouse pointer changes into a little gear icon. After you double-click the lever it will open.Move the lever to open the gate.
- 9Than follow them. There is no rush to follow them, you can look around and take as much time as you would like.Wait for other characters to arrive.
- 10Open the door by double-clicking on the lever that is surrounded by glowing runes.Open the door.
- 11You had the important job of opening the door. Good job! Fight the monsters. Fight the monsters by clicking the right mouse button. You can also hold down the right mouse button. If you hold down the shift key and press up or down it will allow you to roll forward or backward. It can be helpful to roll when you are fighting more than one creature. You have to kill them all then you will get a new objective.Enter the next section.
- 12Let us go ahead and swim down. Now to swim you use the right mouse button as the tool tip indicates and in this case, we are going to look down and push the arrow key in order to swim down.Find a way out.
- 13Once you have swum down to the key, you are going to double-click on it to grab it. Now you can press the space bar, and it will always send you upward.Get the key.
- 14Climb out of the water using the ladder. Then go toward the glowing runes to find the door. Left click the door to unlock it.Open the door.
- 15These are for regaining health and resting. The blue ones let you heal, and the flame one brings you back to life. So, you are going to want to go ahead and click the blue moon to rest. The game is very PG, and as you saw in the fighting, it is mostly monsters or evil bad guys. There is not a lot of blood, gore, or other unpleasantness.Rest or heal.
- 16Run on ahead and catch up with the one character.Run on ahead.
- 17Click on the character to have him disarm the trap.Click on the character.
- 18Open the gate and run on ahead.
- 19Once the gate is opened, you are going to have to fight more bad guys. Many times the bad guys will be worried about the most powerful monsters.Fight the bad guys.
- 20Let us left click it to open the chest and see what is inside.Treasure!
- 21If you have astral shards, which are these little things down here, in the lower corner under the focus orb, then you can re-roll loot. In this case, however it is not worth it. Usually, it is never worth it.OK, inside are a shield, a bow, some armor, some arrows, and a ring of water breathing which would have come in handy earlier.
- 22Click on loot all to take all the items.Take all the items.
- 23Press 'I' to bring up the inventory menu and double click on the items you would like to use. When you are finished close the inventory screen by pressing the 'X'. Now you look like a proper hero.Put on some of the loot.
- 24You can also change the focus orb into a bar and have it sit on the bottom edge of the screen, if you want.
- 25Here we go. Let us find the secret passage by following the glowing runes. Spot hidden means you've found something which is a secret.Find the secret passage.
- 26The first is to see if you notice something out of the ordinary. The second is to find it. Use the magnifying glass. This icon lets you find things.There are two checks.
- 27There is your secret door, which we can now open.Open the secret door.
- 28Once inside you will be called over to speak with, and be rewarded by, the lady.Walk into the secret area.
- 29You can choose the reward that she will give you. There are different types of weapons on the list. If you have a preference, then you would choose one of those. For example, if you are a magic user, spell caster, or monk then you could take any of the rewards.Click through the options to claim your rewards.
- 30We are going to go ahead and take the sword, because we are using swords.Take the sword.
- 31Press 'I' to access the inventory in order to equip the sword. If you click on details you can also see that we are doing 1d8 1, that means 1 to 8 damage. After clicking, we are doing 1d8 2 which works out to 3 to 10.Press 'I'.
- 32Run up the steps of the tavern and click the door to enter.Go into the tavern.
- 33From here, you will click on any people who have little gold chalices above their heads and they will give you quests. Each quest will light up on your map and you can choose to do them.We are now in the tavern in the village.
