    Today you will learn how perform the Coke and Chlorine experiment. The materials that you will need for this project are:

    It is really important to know that the chlorine shock must be in granule form, meaning DO NOT use the disks. If you do have chlorine disks (instead of powdered granules) you will need to break them up into really fine granules. This process is very tedious and takes a lot longer, which is why we strongly recommend the granule chlorine shock.

    Fill your glass container up with some coke.

    Next, pour your chlorine shock into the container of coke. Start with 1 Cup of the granulated chlorine shock. You can later add more if needed for the reaction you desire.

    Stand back and watch the reaction! Keep in mind that this reaction produces a large amount of heat, so please be careful. The chlorine will start to break down in the coke solution which will produce the erupting foam.

    Now we are going to step it up a notch by pouring in some more chlorine this time. If you did not get the large outcome that you were looking for, try again while adding more chlorine.

    The reaction was so violent this round that the container began to vibrate before erupting with the chlorine and coke solution. Sometimes the chlorine will take around 30 seconds to fully dissolve and produce the reaction.

    We tried pouring directly into the coke bottle instead of the glass container. The outcome was not what we were looking for. You can notice that using the glass container was much more effective that using the plastic bottle for this experiment. It is also a better idea to use the glass container since the plastic gets very hot during the reaction.
