Clear App Caches and Delete Apps to Free up Space on HTC One M8
Edited by Thor, Crystal, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to make space on an HTC One M8 by clearing out app caches or uninstalling applications.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on top of the phone
.
Once the phone is activated we will see the lock screen.
2
To unlock the phone, press down on the screen and swipe up
.
Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen and at the bottom we will see 5 icons.
3
We need to find the settings menu and to do that, we can swipe the notification panel down
.
To do that, press and hold at the top of the phone, then swipe down. The notification panel will appear.
4
We are looking for the gear icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
This is our settings icon. Press down on it to open up the settings menu. It will say "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
5
We need to scroll down until we get to the "PHONE" section, then tap on "Storage"
.
It has a USB stick icon next to it. We want to be in the first section, "PHONE STORAGE".
6
Scroll down until we get to "Make more space, Get more storage space by clearing out app caches and uninstalling apps"
.
If we find that we don't have enough space, room or memory on the phone, we have the option to clear some space by tapping on this option.
7
It tells us how much space is being used at the top
.
It says, "You can clear storage space by deleting apps and files you don't need". It shows a list of all of the items that we could potentially delete to clear some space.
8
The first option is "Apps, 5 installed" and it tells us how much room is being used, which, in this case, is 122MB
.
We also have "Voice Recorder", "Gallery", "Tips & Help" and "Miscellaneous". This shows us things that can be deleted, but it does not show us the vital things that would cause a problem if we deleted them.
9
For example, we will press down on the "Gallery" option
.
10
We can see it has brought up a list of images with a checkbox on the right-hand side
.
We need to tap on the checkboxes of the photos we want to delete. We will know the box is selected when the box is green with a white checkmark.
11
We can also tap the menu icon in the top right-hand corner
.
It is 3 small white squares in a vertical line. This will give us some more options to help us work faster.
12
It says "Select all", "Deselect all", "Sort by name" and "Sort by size"
.
This is just another way for us to view and select things quickly. It can be helpful if we want to delete multiple things. We will tap on the menu icon again to get out of that menu.
13
Now we have to option to move the photo to the SD card or delete it
.
It will tell us the number of items selected next to "DELETE". In this case, it is the number 1 because there is only one photo selected. We don't necessarily have to delete things, we can just move them to the SD card if there's enough space. We are going to delete this photo by pressing down on "DELETE (1)".
14
It's going to ask us to confirm
.
Tap on "OK". Now it has deleted that photo. It will take us back out of that menu and it will allow us to choose other things.
15
We will press down on "Voice Recorder" for an example
.
16
There are boxes on the right-hand side of the screen. We choose the recordings we'd like to delete or move, then tap on "MOVE TO SD" or "DELETE".
17
We will go back by pressing the white arrow in the top left-hand corner
.
18
Follow the same process with all of these options and delete what you don't need in order to create space on the HTC One M8
.
19
This concludes the tutorial on how to make more space on the HTC One M8 by clearing out app caches or uninstalling applications
.
