Why Do I Need to Know the iOS Version on My iPhone or iPad?
Each year when Apple rolls out a new stable iOS update, it comes with a variety of new and enhanced features. So, knowing which iOS version you're running is critical if you don't want to miss out on both security and device-enhancement updates. If you happen to have the auto-update option disabled, you could easily miss a significant operating system update.
For the following guide, we used an iPhone 7, running iOS 12.2. The steps below will work for any iPhone or iPad model.

- You can also check what iOS version you're iPhone or iPad is running by connecting your device to a computer, then launching iTunes. The iOS version is displayed in the section labeled, General Summary.
- To check for software updates, go to; Settings > General > Software Update. Make sure to connect to WiFi before attempting to update your device unless you're OK with using your data.
