As carriers impose stricter data caps on their plans, you have undoubtedly been looking for ways to monitor your usage so you aren't charged for going over your cap. A good way to check your data usage on any phone is by using your carrier's USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) codes. This article will show you how to take advantage of your carrier's USSD codes so you can monitor your data, text, and minute usage.

If you are ready to continue on with checking your data usage using USSD codes, you will need to do the following:

  1. 1
Go to your device's Home screen
    .
This can be done by either repeatedly hitting the back button (if applicable on your device) or the Home button. *Typically the back button (whether a physical button or a touch button built into the screen) is a looped arrow pointing to the left. The Home button looks like a little house.

Tips and Tricks

  • USSD codes and Sprint's text messaging service work as any other phone call and text, respectively, and require your phone to be in an area of coverage for the requests to go through.

Questions and Answers

I want to know how can I check my SMS balance?

Tell me how can I check message balance in my laptop using USSD?

There are two methods available for you to check the balance.

  • The first one is when using a USB modem from your carrier that employs a SIM card. When you use it, you have to open the software associated with it that allows connecting, disconnecting, sending messages, etc. Go to the options where you can check the balance, request it by USSD or otherwise, and receive a pop-up message (or you can check the section with messages). This report will probably only include your current balance.
  • The other method is accomplished using your mobile phone. You can enter the site of your carrier from your browser, find a section with online services, enter your phone number, and you'll either receive a password by e-mail or phone or use the one that you already have. You will be able to generate or check the usage report from the site that may differentiate between SMS and other expenditures. You do not need the USSD code in this case.
